Prep can look really good on black guys. Take the prep threads with a grain of salt because it is not designed for your skin tone. Olive, pink, and light tones are better for you. Also you want to be a little bit more on the flamboyant end of prep as opposed to dressing like a 50s yacht owner, because then you just look like you have racial insecurity.

Many of the bebop-era jazz legends also dressed very well, although inevitably that'll be a stereotypical look in its own way it most likely won't carry bad connotations.
