Is it possible to wear a trench coat without looking like a total sperg?

>> No.14115654

that is not a trench coat
and yes, it is very much so possible, Burberry trenchcoats are very effay

>> No.14115676

>>14115644
yes, as long as the coat is fabric [not leather], not black, lacks a mantle, is tight against the body, and has the waist band replaced by a buckled belt, or removed. You want the Audy Hepburn look, not the Inspector Gadget look.

the shoulder thing is a mantle. some people call it a cape, collar cape, etc. It's normally seen only on older coats, but i you see a new coat with one, don't get it.

yeah that looks kinda autistic. I was thinking more along the lines of like the kind of simple, loose-fitting fabric ones, kinda like pic related. Have any thoughts on those?

That's not really the kind I had in mind, it was just the closest I could find at the time. I was thinking more like this kind, but maybe a little longer

That is not a trench coat, a trench coat is double breasted with wide lapels and collar, has a belt at the waist and cuffs, and usually has epaulets. If you want to be more autistic about what a trench is it also has to have a 10 button front, a storm flap, that weird little flap that covers the outer lapel when fully buttoned up, must be at least knee length, and must be constructed of gabardine fabric.

>> No.14115808

And it should be a Burberry pre-mid 90s.

I have a London Fog raincoat from before that time, probably 1960s or 1970s era. It is of typical proportions for coats of those times, a little looser than most coats sold nowadays for mens coats.

The spergishness of a trench coat is determined by the shoulder fit and what you wear it with.
Coats of the WWI era had wide sleeves to fit a uniform jacketed arm through. The shoulders were wide for that purpose and the huge buttons and robe like strap were suited for cold hands, muddy conditions, and general shit in trenches. We don't have that now.
Today a trench coat is worn alone, or with a suit. If you wear it with a suit, you must fit the coat to the suit. If you wear it alone, it must be fit closer to the body. If you wear a trench coat fit to a suit without the suit, it looks like a potato sack, with drooping shoulders and generalized saggy crap.

>>14115727
if this is your goal, try finding a 'peacoat' instead.

but don't tho

Well, first of all, that's not a trench coat. It's a duster. It's like a trench coat only it's longer, thicker, and far more bad-ass. It makes you look like Lorenzo Lamas, and women find it irresistible. It's like a shield of armor.

>> No.14117306

>>14117075
a duster is just a mislabeled trench coat that morons wear because they don't care about getting mud and/or random litter on their clothing. It doesn't make you look bad ass, it makes you look like a italian rodeo clown who wasted their parents money.
If you want to look bad ass, stop worrying about what others think and focus on self improvement in the real world.

Look into older military dress overcoats, they often are made to fit very tight to the body, and are actually pretty warm and comfy too. I have one from the Navy roughly 'Nam era, I think, and it fits like a glove.

You literally can't pull it off. Men's shoulders are too wide to get away with something like that. And if you're short don't bother because a long coat won't look good on you anyways

trench coats are for the trenches they usually cover a lot of the body more than knee. Not impossible to pull off but tacky most of the time.

Frock coat > trench coat.
