I just graduated and I want to buy myself my first real watch. I've been using a generic digital Casio for the past 5 or 6 years.
I want a watch made from metal, not too obnoxious, but something durable, elegant and quite minimal to be honest. I know NOTHING about watches.
My budget is up to 400$. I don't mind used. I just want the watch to scream 'yeah this guy appreciates good quality and has class'

Let me ask again since the old thread is dead. I have a Seiko 5 which has around 30 hours of power reserve IIRC, this is not enough to last through the weekend. So I wanted to buy one of those long power reserve watch such as the Tissot Powermatic 80 or a derivate. Anyone has experience with these movements? Any other movement that can last at least 60 hours on a full charge?

>just recharge it during the weekend
Sure, if I wasn't retarded I wouldn't forget to recharge it every single weekend.

Yeah, no. Unless you want to impress other autists on imageboards, even Amazon brands are respected among normies. Nobody cares about your watch, you don't need to spend so much especially if you can't afford it or need to make sacrifices for it. I would argue that in a strictly fashion point of view, some shit tier watches such as Skagen or DW are more stylish in design than many luxury ones. I personally dislike those chronographs with those huge ass numbers, date magnification lens for old men with poor eyesight, 5-10-15 for children who can't tell the time, and so on. I have to admit I really want to buy pic related (costs 80 bucks) because to me it looks good, but the fact it uses a 5 bucks chink movement and glass holds me back.

Anyway, if you're rich as fuck, you can buy whatever, but I would still set my absolute limit at 500-700 bucks max, which would still put you above 99% of people.

I think it refers to "high tech escapement" on the lower end p80 mvmts. I googled it and while it is definitely some type of plastic polymer, the information on whether or not it's better or worse than traditional metallic escapements is mixed and I don't have the technical knowledge to tell if it makes any difference other than lowering the price of the watch (even if the plastic piece wears quicker, these watches have a reduced beat rate to keep that power reserve so it would wear less either way I assume?).

But then again I might just stop being an autistic fag and just buy a quartz, mechanical is cool and all but it's too much of a hassle imo, if I were ever to buy a second watch, the first one would pretty much always be empty if it only has 30 or so hours of reserve like this one I have.

99.9% of people don't have any "good" watches. You should just buy whatever looks good to you (it should also match your overall style IE don't buy a dress watch if you dress like a nigger).

If you spend 500 bucks you can get a very respectable watch that will put you above the vast majority of people already if that's what you care about, also it will probably be worth passing down and using for a lifetime. If you're in a permanent competition in your richfag circle on who spends the most on vanity items, that's another story. But saying that you MUST spend over a grand is a huge fucking meme.

Your seikno isn't respectable. Bill Gates wearing a $50 watch is cool because hes trying to show that he doesnt care even though he could easily wear the fanciest watches ever made. Some 4chan loser wearing a $500 watch isnt cool or respectable because most of you dont even own a vehicle, and youre wearing a $500 watch because thats a lot of money to you and you think it will matter that its a $500 seikno instead of a $50 seikno. Its still a seikno. Its still trash. Youre still a weeb. You still have bad taste. You still have no money. A $1,000 used breitling or omega would be infinitely better, but you dont make enough money to responsibly purchase anything let alone a $1,000 piece of jewelry. A $500 piece of jewelry is pathetic.

So much projecting to justify your 1500 bucks paperweight. Seiko is fully respectable and has as much heritage as any Swiss brand. It's also a common brand and normies will recognize it as a quality\classy watch before they recognize some obscure luxury richfag brand.

On top of that, servicing a Seiko is gonna be cheaper than servicing an Omega. I think lots of people buy expensive watches and then run them to death by never servicing them because they don't feel like spending 500 bucks for service on top of the 2000 they spent to purchase the watch itself.

I see NATO straps floating around on ebay for about 15-20 AUD, the reason I asked about NATO quality is I don't want to order some piece of shit strap that feels like ass (at least relatively speaking) on your wrist, but I have no real experience with the subject so I don't know if that's something to be concerned about.

I have some <$3,- NATOs from Aliexpress, and sometimes they're a bit rough on the wrist. Usually due to stitches being a little rough or sharp. You can fix that by running a flame (lighter, candle, something small like that) past it once or twice to get the rough edges to melt and round up a bit..

Type-B flieger dials have the minutes even more prominently, especially compared to the Type-A which only showed hours. If you use a watch to navigate, minutes are more important than hours.

That watch has 'nautical instruments' written on the dial, so possibly a nod to a marine chronometer, or the navigating heritage of clocks/watches.

I think it looks good btw.

Watches are a very personal choice to be honest.. If you think that watch is fine, it's fine. I've never heard of the brand, it to be honest it looks a little meh..

If you want something similar in the same price range, I can recommend Citizen and Seiko, for analog quartz watches.

I have pic related, which looks slightly better than that Champion based on pictures, at a similar price. (+-€90-120)

along with the bezel and lug size being much different from each other, i would say the 58 is a much more comfortable and svelte watch, probably the only other thing i can say that feels like it is a non maxi case sub or an explorer 1.

Traditional guy here. I don’t like quartz because it’s just like cheating, to me. Soldered chips on boards, batteries, etc. Takes the authenticness out of a watch. A watch is a technical feat of micro-engineering, using what basically is a computer to tell the time is just cheating to me, it’s nothing impressive. What’s impressive is all these metal parts, moving in harmony, flawlessly to be able to keep and tell the time +/-1 spd. I don’t really feel like typing more but that’s the general feeling I have with quartz and why I’ll never wear one, emphasis on this being MY opinion.

Apparently they're coming out with something new this year, so it might change.

But other than that, probably a 44GS cased one for that unique design.
For me personally, I love the SBGV245 (see pic); sporty, elegant, quartz.

No-holds barred, the SBGD201.
I'd seriously consider it over a Lange if I had the money to splurge.

I love mine, but then again it was my 'first'. If you go with the Omega 1120 movement, it'll keep the value approximately, but if you go with the newer co-axial it might lose a bit more. Also, it has the best bracelet of this generation, though watchmakers will happily complain that it's tough to polish (which it is).

Try one on...it's like wearing a large coin. If it sings to you, get it. If it doesn't, try something else.

I like the jumping seconds hand on sports/tool watches.
Especially when the hand is super stable and hits the markers just right.

Pretty cool to see that long slender pointer jump so purposefully and with such control from one perfectly aligned hashmark to the next.
One-two-one-two-one-two.

Like a victorious Waffen-SS division goose stepping in front of the Führer's Benz.
Very satisfying.
