I was looking for opinions and critiques of IWC. Seems like they are well made watches, and have a long history. I don't know how highly regarded they are now. I was looking at the pilot's watches and the portofino series. They look elegant but for the amount of money they are asking, you can start looking at many other brands that are high quality.

My swiss watch is beautiful and functional. Every week it is seven secods ahead and I stop the watch for those seven secods to reset the time. Every time I look at it, I enjoy the fine detailing of the craftmanship and the exquisite finishing.

Mechanicals cannot counterargue that they value form over function. Higher priced cars do have better function (using the Mercedes/Kia example), while the same can't be said of watches.

Quartz for some reasons cannot accept that some people have the means to afford mechanicals.

I've owned an f-91w for about ten years. I noticed that when you press the button to set the seconds to 0 the minutes sometimes stayed the same, sometimes skipped forward one minute. Didn't really think much about it and never bothered to figure out why or read a manual. Now I was experimenting and it seems to me if the seconds are between 0 and 30 the minutes will stay the same when pressing the button, and if the seconds are between 30 and 0 the minutes will skip ahead one minute. Is this the case or is it something else? And what's the purpose? Don't know the exact cutoff line, if it's 1-30 and 31-0 or what. I also noticed that the same button, the right hand button, beeps in the alarm mode but not in any other mode.

I think for the Tudor/Rolex pricepoint that they should all be done by hand.
Vintage tudors are very nice and I think are way more interesting than a lot of their current offerings. Wish they would innovate more.

Lateral clutches can run continuously, but they wear precipitously if you do so. Unlike vertical clutches.

On lateral-clutch chronographs, the coupling teeth are sharp and triangular. They're designed to mesh *(and unmesh) without hanging up as rounded teeth would.
