Based. Yeah, the oldtimer had some trouble seeing casios smaller numbers as he got older.
At least that is what was written.
But i would bet that the mountain jews just got their grubby hands on the pope and somehow convinced him to wear swatch. Based japs didn't even try to buy him back, because that would be very disrispectful towards the pope.

Good question, i just read that the casio is 35 mm dial diameter. The only difference then is that the swatches numbers are thicker. This would only confirm my theory that swatch convinced the pope to switch.
Also, he could read the casio easily but all of a sudden, after about 3 years his eyes got so bad that he couldn't see the damn thing....eyes get worse but usually not that bad.

>> No.14049294

Watches used to be very exclusive back in the day, this was negated first by making mechanical watches mass produced relatively cheaply and later by the advent of quartz watches and seeing them produced even more cheaper. Watchfags have always wanted exclusive pieces made with labor intensive methods to stand out of the crowd, which is why modern high end makers cater to them and why it is a watch brands dream to be high end.
Those who just want to tell the time do not have a need for "effay" design that much and if they do they will just buy a fashion shitter.

At least with my team, I'm looking for the following when I interview entry (mostly PhD, some masters) candidates fresh out of school:
* Can they communicate effectively, including both very technically as well as in more layman's terms (can I put this person in front of another quant, as well as in front of a marketer or client)?
* Can they write working code for small programming exercises (for example, a prime number sieve)? Can they identify useful boundary test cases to check that the code they wrote works? Can they analyze a program's time and space complexity and find ways to make it better?
* Can they do math? Usually we test linear algebra and differential equations, since most quantitative majors have these in their background, but it depends on the candidate's areas of focus - if they've studied number fields, for example, we can test that instead. The goal isn't specifically to evaluate if the candidate remembers all their linear algebra, but to evaluate their abstract thinking and problem solving.

* Do they understand probability? Can they do simple problems involving Bayesian statistics? Do they understand basic stochastic calculus? Can they talk about the properties of things like normal, lognormal, poisson, etc. distributions and how they relate to thinks like Brownian motion and jump-diffusion processes? Usually these are the most in-depth problem solving questions - we care that the candidate has a deep, fundamental understanding of these. If you've memorized the formula for the moment generating function of lognormal distribution but can't prove/derive it, no points.
* Do they have a basic knowledge of quantitative finance? Can they price simple derivatives, explain arbitrage free pricing, explain how and why risk-neutral measures simplify pricing, etc.? Can they identify the main driving risks of various products? Hull's book is pretty standard here and if a candidate had an understanding of of everything in that book they'd probably do fine.
* We really don't ask many brainteasers (how many barbers in NYC, why are manhole covers round, etc) or fit questions (greatest strength, etc). We do tend to try to determine whether a candidate actually wants to do the job but that's about it as far as fit is concerned.
I'm around and always happy to answer questions about the field. Good luck anon.

I was showing my wife pictures of different watches I have been considering and showed her a Rolex Submariner, Tudor Black Bay and an Omega Speedmaster MOTPM.
She didn't really like the Tudor which is hilarious because it's a meme ever since that Teddy Bulbasaur episode where his gf didn't like his Tudors. She said the Sub "just looked better".
The interesting thing was that she absolutely loved the Speedy MOTPM and said she liked it a lot and wanted me to get one.

Get the fuck in.
It was listed as not working but a new battery was all it needed. It's not all great news though, the crystal has got one fairly hefty scratch and the caseback is tension fitted rather than screw down. But this module is pretty unique, all the modes are simultaneously displayed and the running man and alarm icon both animate when the chronograph or alarm are activated. I'll post a webm. Now I just need to clean all the old sweat gunk and replace the pusher gaskets.

One that I bought under market price by a very wide margin, no less. And it's a 60% writeoff.

So calling it debt is like saying those micro tears you get in your muscles from lifting properly are "muscle damage": technically true but very misleading since you're actually building the muscle.

New acquisition/restoration project. Traded it with a hoarded buddy. Didn't want to give it up easy, gave him a Cosmotron and an automatic 70's Roamer for it, both serviced, BUT.

This is a 6309 that DOESN'T have it's barrel-arbor bearings shot. Getting a 6309 online is a gamble, since you don't know till you get it whether you'll get a decent amplitude out of it, or if its mainspring barrel is scraping against the plates because the bearings are completely fucked. So I traded two watches I wasn't able to sell yet (the Roamer had some dial damage, and Cosmotrons are still very underrated) for a piece I'll likely wear after restoration. I'm fine with that.

You can't really see it from the pic, but it has a pretty nice subtle vertical-brushed anthracite dial.

>screws are threaded all the way, they don't have an unthreaded tip that would make disassembly and reassembly easier
>completely unfinished
>Diafix sucks
>old-style Diashock sucks
Meh parts:
>the keyless work is probably completely lifted from the Seiko 7009, replaced by the 7S26 in 1996
Good parts:
>only three-four kinds of screws (not counting unique screws like crown-wheel, ratchet wheel, etc.)
