But if you want a casual jacket then you should look for textured fabrics and casual details like less shoulder padding, lighter construction, maybe patch pockets if you like those. I think hopsack is a nice option, tweed has too many associations, linen or linen/cotton blends are good but not in January.

gant is very much so not fake, though, they were the option for poorer students in the 50s and 60s and even have this authentic pic with R kennedy wearing their stuff
but yeah nowadays their collars are not as good (not bad though or anything, around PRL level) and they plaster their logo on everything but theyre still good beater shirts (because they go on sale for like 40) and have really good outerwear (their strongest point imo)

English teachers in SE Asia are pretty notorious so don't expect to be liked, However, the women who go there are straight up sluts so I'd consider more of a sex tourism opportunity than teaching opportunity. Just being an unnaccompanied white man in SE Asia at all is pretty suspicious. I'd stay away from Cambodia you'd probably end up on a list hanging out with kids there. Thats the notorious pedo zone.Its basically ancap paradise with easily accessible meth and RPGs but really not the kind of place you should take Brooks Brothers loafers

You don't really need to buy any tailoring to Vietnam, because local Vietnamese tailors charge you almost dirt-cheap comparing to Western's RTWs. I once got a cashmere suit tailored for around $400 with canvassing and everything. However, you must beware that many "touristy" tailoring shops charge you for much more and their sub-par quality, many of their details are a combination of Neapolitan+English+trendy craps, so you must be careful of which shop you're going to. If you want to, I could hook you up to a small Saigon-based shop that gets the Neapolitan and Ivy details right. Regarding fit, embrace relaxed-fit, slim fit will kill you especially in hot days. You would want to go with totally relax and unstructured tailoring, and ask specifically to your tailor to forgo any canvassing and lining (yes, even the sleeves, you'll thank me later).

The shop name is PHẠM Tailor, search it up on Facebook and try to chat with him first. SIR tailor is also really good, although their price is much more expensive comparing to Vietnamese tailor standard, quite around to American MTM's price. There are also alot of artisanal quality shoemakers around Saigon such as Mangii and Dominique Saint Paul if you're interested, but you still obviously want to keep that good ol' pair of flip flops for those days. Have fun in Saigon, you'd be surprised of how many tailors comparing to how little well-dressed people out there.

Get yourself some light beige slacks. Twill with a heavy weight so they actually drape. Get some flannel trousers with a decent rise (11/12 inches) and side adjusters. Get something casual like a hoodie or a sweater so you don't look like a total meme. I wear Panama shirts from albam (British brand) in the summer which are very comfortable. Not very prep but not a huge deviation.

Is there some big difference between these two lines that I'm missing? The vintage ivy have a third collar button and a hanging loop on the back, and maybe some nicer buttons? It looks like both have unlined collars. I would think it would be safer to order the one that comes in neck and sleeve sizes instead of small/med/large, unless I'm missing some other detail.

Their Ivy shirts are basically for casual wear and are from their casual line. They're specifically Ivy because have the "halal" Ishizu Kensuke (pbuh) Ivy details like the old VAN shirts (3 point collar+6 front buttons+no sleeve placket buttons+locker loop).

Their mainline shirts are for people to wear with suits, and all of their current production shirts have MoP buttons.

I'm not sure about the yank website but the Japanese ones have sleeve/collar measures for the alpha sized casual ones too.

The collars are all lined but the lining is free-floating so they roll pretty nicely t. I have like four or five kamakura shirts

I've a vtg raglan sleeve short sleeve chambray popover with flap pocket and it goes pretty nicely with surp, denim, etc. One can argue it's an effect of massification+proletarianization of ivy style in the 1949-67 heyday period, but it's an undeniable part of the look. If one can find a proper chambray shirt with a good roll, it's easily differentiable from the J. Crew govno.

Ended up sending it back actually. Fit was shit and the fabric wasn't that comfortable. Although the length is 80cm the sides ride up when I tried to tuck them in whilst I wore it untucked the front and back would look stupidly long. The shirt can't decide if it wants to be tucked in or left loose and so fails at both. After buying a couple gitman vintage shirts in the past, I'm now put off. Back to custom/Yoox Brooks brothers for me.

not the guy you're replying too, but there is at least a modicum of sense to what he's saying.

the prep style has certain connotations hard coded to it, and you'll look quite silly if your identity doesn't meet any of them. style isn't as much of a signifier of social group or class as it used to be, but still I don't think that prep works unless you are well educated and/or a high prestige field. i.e. there were kids who dressed preppy in my home town who looked awful, but am currently at HYP and the prep kids here look good. it's all about context.
