My uncle is quite fond of a brand named Ambiorix and they have a store near me, I'll check them out.

Any tips on what model to choose? I've heard plain Oxfords (without toe-cap) are the most formal (so that's what I'll be going for). Any other things I should keep in mind? I like the look of wholecut Oxfords but are they appropriate with a suit and as comfortable as plain ones?

Plain Oxfords with or without a simple toe cap are the most formal, yeah, usually in black, brogueing makes them less formal. Wholecuts are silghtly different, some regard them as less formal, and they're also prone to creasing at the front when you walk, which is where having a toecap comes in handy, it helps to hide it somewhat. If I were you I'd also think about how you would use them in the future, buy something that fills a gap and you can use for multiple occasions.

if im doing the casual shirt and jeans thing, are the likes of black brogues too showy? i went out the other day to try on some shoes, and the loakes all looked really fucking out of place with my light blue boot cut jeans. all the boots ive seen are either tan or brown, but tan would need to be paired with a belt of the same colour and that seems like a rather bad idea.

tl;dr how do i pick a shoe or boot thats versatile and fits with casual jeans and shirt? if i buy a brown boot, do i need to hunt down a belt in that exact same shade of brown?
