Ever been to Switzerland? They're pretty autistic when it comes to watches.
Didn't wear my watch one hot and sunny day, my friends ordered me back to their house to put mine on. Also if you're wearing a shirt or any other clothing with long sleeves; do not at any circumstances wear your watch below the end of the sleeve. Patek Philippe rules the world and the French are the plebs of the earth and nothing good can ever come from there.
These were my experiences and cultural learnings in Switzerland.
My friends live in Geneva, perhaps it's different in other parts.

Ok /wt/.

Tell me about Grand Seiko. From everything I've researched so far they seem to be very well made, and respected amongst watch enthusiasts. I would love it if someone could explain spring drive to me and why it is such a big deal. How do they stack up to rolex, Tudor, omega, etc?

I would really like to get a gmt, but I am unsure which at the moment.

>> No.13983570

>>13983460
The strong point in GS is the finishing which is why boomers tell you to buy one if you want to impress yourself and buy a Rolex if you want to impress others.
Springdrive is a quartz regulated mechanical movement, the gimmick there is the perfectly smooth sweep of the second hand and that's pretty much it.

I am unaware of the pitfalls of quartz. What are the alternatives? Silicon?

>> No.13983638

>>13983611

Quartz ia good. Downsides are that it typically requires a battery, but that isn't an issue with spring drive, and that the hands on quartz movements tick once per second. This is triggering to many people that want smooth sweeping hands, which is again something that is not an issue with spring drive.

Downsides to spring drive is that watches with spring drive movements start at 2 grand, and that's not even the Grand Seiko ones.

I was trying to sell him on having it brought back to working order.

Help me /wt/. Name a good 80's watch that isn't a Rolex, slavshit, or a 7A-series Seiko.

Ironically commies managed to delay their quartz crisis through their planned economy, so they were still mostly making pretty good mechanicals in the 80's.

I was thinking of swapping to a blue bezel. Probably should have ordered it at the same time, but it was a gift and I picked out the one I wanted.

Interesting, that's about $4300 USD which is almost exactly what I paid for an excellent condition Explorer 1 in the US. It must be pretty rough living on kagraroo dollars, everything sounds expensive.

I'm not really looking for a new watch right now, but that's probably not a bad deal especially since the used market for GS is pretty small.

Yeah, rolex submariners are going for $8500 us dollars

The original dial snowflake wont be hard to get rid of at least in watch circles I'm in. it's a great watch, better than my datejust. But I dont like the combo of the 41mm size and the lack of micro adjustments (only had half links for adjustments)

The new face is superior in my opinion.
The giant SEIKO doesn't really do it for me.
I'd offer 4500 aud, but I feel like you wouldn't be interested.

Damn, none of those look perfect, most are missing some key points like blued steel and no logo.
But I guess it's fair for $150 chink brand.
Looks like you can contact them and ask for some changes in design though.
Thanks, anon, I'll consider those

This face does look a little busy IRL, black might be better, and it needs a new bezel. It's pretty ridiculous, but was looking at mods and already I'm thinking about getting the case abrasive blasted to dull the finish, but I think a new bezel and strap should probably be enough to reduce the shinyness.

>> No.14008169
