I like some Stowas, especially that classic 36 posted above, but imo most European watches under $1k are boring and for my money I can get much more interesting Seikos like several of the coctail line, or the Alpinist, or a SARX.
When I've got the disposable cash to get multiple shitters at a time a Stowa is definitely on my pic list though.

I don't understand...why not just take the time to save more money and buy a better watch? In other words, don't bother build up to it by buying successive higher and higher grades of watches...just save up until you get the watch you really want, and buy that, even if it takes a few years. You don't need a watch in our modern world, so why waste money on one that is inferior to the one you dream about?

>pic is one of the best starter 'big-boy' watches, and reasonably well priced on the secondary market. Movement is reliable, build quality excellent for the purpose, and rare enough that not many people know of it's existence.

What other shit, precisely? You can step into any of the boutiques and buy expensive watches without much hassle. It's the limited edition ones that are problematic, but if you wanted the standard Rolex President or JLC Reverso or even a standard Lange, it's not a problem if your finances are in order. What other shit are you talking about, aside from having bought watches from them prior in order to be eligible for the extremely limited editions?

This post holds too much truth. /wt/ seems highly uninterested in the actual craft that goes into watchmaking. There arent many of us on /wt/ who has repolished watches, grinded on them, changed bezel inserts, changed glass. I mean these are pretty basic things. I know how to remove an movement and replace hands also but nowhere near the full complexity of the movement. Just ordered a Unitas clone movement so I can learn that though!

Hulk was limited edition, wasn't it? Daytona has a 5 year waiting list, as the Rolex woman told me 3 weeks ago. The GMT is heavily dependent upon location: for instance, it's easier to find one in an airport Rolex dealership than it is on the street, and they don't discriminate.

C'mon now....you're just complaining for the sake of complaining. Or because you were embarrassed one time at a boutique and now you just want to share your bitterness with the world.

You can easily go into a Rolex boutique and buy anything that is on display. You can go into an Omega dealership and buy the platinum Globemaster without problems. The list is endless. If you want something specific, and it's highly 'limited', then you absolutely have to 'pay the price' and be one of their 'preferred customers'. You find that insulting? Then don't buy their products OR wait until the product is so old that no one wants it.

On Chrono24 you can find the limited edition museum Omega Chronographs that they did around 2010 or so. Fucking beautiful, but it seems that no one wanted to buy them. Now they're available, in surprisingly high numbers.

But then again, that's not a stainless steel Daytona, which is always in demand because of the controlled low production numbers (which EVERYONE knows about).

Get with the programme grouch....

First, there is no guaranteed correlation that each 'wind' equals 1 hour of power reserve. If it isn't a problem when you wear it, then it's probably not getting wound enough or there is something wrong with the manual wind function of the watch, because if you turn the crown a full turn 40 times, you should at least have more power than 45 minutes....

What kind of watch? And how old?

Regardless of the quality, winding the crown a full turn 40 times should definitely yield more than 45 minutes, so it's probably best to take it to a watchmaker to have a look inside and see what's wrong.

This may seem stupid to say, but make sure you confirm if you need to pull the crown to a different position in order to wind the watch or not. Sometimes people make a mistake in this area, or sometimes a watch is designed different to the general (which, in general design, is that the crown in the closest position to the watch will wind it).

When the watch is fully wound, you should hear a 'ratchet' click type of sound if you were to keep winding it, which is the safety to prevent the watch from overwinding (usually by allowing slippage of the mainspring that powers the watch).

Or as you suggest maybe you should just e-mail the guy on social media...he might be able to clarify what precisely you're doing wrong.

Good luck Anon.

I have the Aqua Terra 38.5mm 8500. I prefer the 8500 over the 8900 (your pic) because of the 3'o clock date and the vertical lines over horizontal.

It is a very striking watch. Extremely elegant, dressy but also the ultimate everyday watch. The blue looks black in some light settings and is very, very shiny. Definitely eye catching.

Then I was pretty set on Tudor, either a North Flag or a Ranger, but both had things about them that kind of bothered me. Eventually I decided I wanted a Rolex instead and was shopping for an OP, Datejust, or Explorer. I ended up finding a used Explorer in really good condition and I liked it better than the new 39mm Explorer I had tried on, so I picked that.

Zenith or Jaeger LeCoultre. You can’t go wrong with any watch from those two brands.

Omega is boring unless you get something off beat like a globemaster. Seamasters and Speedmasters are so fucking boring and ubiquitous. Same deal with Rolex, plus non watch retards will assume you just want to flex

Breitling and IWC are also boring shit

A Tudor Black Bay 58 is pretty nice, if you can find one. I’d recommend one of those over a standard boring seamaster coaxial

I guess you could consider a Panerai as well

The only thing I'll suggest is to try everything on within your price range and see what it looks like on your wrist. Sometimes watches in pics look awesome and terrible irl on your wrist, sometimes terrible looking watches look amazing irl on your wrist. Some watches you'll love but find that they're too light or heavy, and some watches you'll hate until you feel that they are the 'right' weight.

One thing you can do is determine what the watch is primarily for. Is it a formal/dressy watch? Is it a 'function' watch (i.e. chronograph, moonphase, etc.)? Is it for wearing with suits most of the time, or wearing khakis most of the time? Do you want something manual-wind or automatic wind?

Once you narrow it down, then you can really target your search. There's so much there, by so many companies, that it's a tough thing. Just the Seamaster alone has many iterations, as does the Speedmaster. And that's just the main areas of Omega. When you look at JLC, Rolex, and others you have even more choice.

But really...probably the fastest way is to just go to a supermall that has watch company boutiques or an area of the city where there are lots of them, go in, explain your situation (Hi. I am going to purchase my first serious watch, and I wanted to try on a few), and then see what looks good and what looks bad on your wrist.

>can't go wrong with pic related, but it might be out of your price range unless you want to save up.

Wrong. It wasn't a good fake but definitely not a bad one either. But the date cyclops was way off, and the end links was frankly a fucking joke. I, being the superior watchmaker student that I am, pointed this out to him. He started spilling some shit about how it's basically the same quality as a genuine only $5000 less, and I lost it. Big problem with the skx's are they don't hack, if that's not a problem for you then go nuts, get a 013 and give it your own flair with a bezel mod/nice strap

I would go for tiger watches (the 5508 V5/V6) They are chinese and have no water resistance but 200-250 dollars for a miyota 9015, 38mm and that true old style submariner case. You pick out whatever dial/hands/bezel combo u want. I recommend going for a tudor snowflake look - logoless dial. Watch only so you get your own strap... But you were gonna do that anyway.

>>13948452
I also recommend this
But I feel like 36 mm is gonna be too small considering that's including bezel, it's really a child size variant of their larger odferings

so idk if this is bait but ill tell you why people who have any idea about watches dont like them.

while they cater to a more fashionable and minimalist style, they use really really cheap materials including the movement. often they dont specify what the movement is so its likely its a cheap and nasty chinese quartz that costs barely anything.
quartz movements are also usually looked down on in modern watches that aren't digital because the company behind the product (daniel wellington, fossil, tommy hillfiger, michael kors etc) are often non heritage watch makers and are just making profit off people who just want something on their wrist.

It's the lowest tier of watches in the world after fakes and it just shows no class."not caring" about watches so you buy a mvmt also dosn't hold up as a good argument because for the over inflated price you could buy a nice seiko 5, with a quality movement and case and real history behind it.

mvmt and all the other fashion watch brands are like uniqlo or hnm selling the stock they do now at the same price you could buy a higher quality product. it takes no effort to buy a better piece and you might even save money.

That's not how it works.
Don't ever do anything to impress somebody, you will appear weak minded and they will be quite the opposite of impressed.
If you have personality and the looks, almost any watch will get complimented.

Get a fake rolex and lie about everything, way easier than spending much cash to be dissapointed about the lack of attention.
Stop being a thirsty, spineless fag. Get a hooker and get on with your life. Chasing thots will make you miserable.
