I know the desk could be cleaner but I cant really work without a bunch of papers flying everywhere...

Other direction is much more work in progress... I plan on having some form of floating shelfboards on the right coming over the sideboard. On the left probably some form of narrow shelf to put the music stuff and my records and cds in, not sure what that kinda thing is called...
Also possibly a deer trophy that I could get from a friends uncle who passed or something. Dont like the idea of having a trophy that I didnt earn but maybe its ok since it has aesthetic value...

It looks good. I'd reckon you need some better lighting though. All the side walls and corners, especially where the plant is, are really dark.

Also need something on that empty back wall. Like you said you were planning, a shelf could work, just make it high enough so you can still put something like a TV on those drawers next to the plant.

Maybe also buy an enclosed clothes basket so they're not all hanging out.

I dont ever watch TV and I dont really think a huge dark surface would be beautiful... Maybe if anything Ill get a beamer pointing on that wall but then the couch would face the wrong way.
From what Ive seen, these kinds of sideboard work best if theyre almost empty save for decoration.
Light is a big problem. My central lamp is too dim to really brighten it up and the second one is more decorative than useful... Problem is that I have only one lightswitch, so Id need to fuck aroummnd with the wiring first if I wanna get more lamps that I can turn on comfortably. Its also 2 in the morning atm so that doesnt help the light. Doesn't get that much better during the day though since the window is facing north...

Also noted the idea about the laundry basket. Definitely need to find a solution for that so thanks for mentioning.

Im gonna nitpick here.
Definitely change the light fixture; the current fixture isnt doing the room any favors.
Get proper curtains or blinds for the window over the couch. (Is there even a window?)
Use the blanket instead on either your bed or to cover the couch
The couch itself looks sloppy; I would replace it
Color matching seems to be a bit all over the place.
That little rug under the coffee table is so small that is serves no real purpose. Either get a larger one or get rid of it completely
Coffee table looks good, but could go for a more diluted brown stain
That opposite wall needs "something" on it to break it up
You have to consider moving furniture around.

Yeah this was just a cheap one from ikea when I moved in. Do you happen to a have a good guide for lighting? Imo good lighting and lamp style is the hardest part about interior decoration...

I see your point. It has some sentimental value since I bought it in morocco, but yeah it doesnt really serve a purpose... A larger rug has the problem of locking me in with my desk chair, which I dont know if its a problem or not... Also Im poor as fuck so expensive stuff like a nice carpet, I have to wait till I get lucky and get a really good deal...

Picrelated is what Im planning to build and put in the corner to the left of the sideboard so store the music equipment and have some more storeroom. Also probably some form of open bookshelves above the radiator. Once I have enough cash to buy the wood Ill get started...

Yeah the sideboard should be dead centered on that wall. But I have to get the music stuff out the way first... Other than that I really like the layout right now, but maybe only cause I changed it all up a few weeks ago (rotated desk, bed and couch counterclockwise in the room). This one feel like the most space.

Anything that actually gives the whole area light instead of just focusing it downward. See if you can install a 3 point directional fixture

Okay I get it now, but you're essentially covering up the wall. As a placement piece it's too big for that wall and gives off the impression you're using it as window cover

If you re-arrange your furniture it may not be a problem. Go to a larger hardware retail store; they sometimes stock rugs made out of excess carpet material that carpet manufacturers sell.

Its shit quality compared to the red one. Bought that one in Tunisia specifically to put it on my wall since it'd tear pretty quickly on the floor. Kinda liked the design though and it was cheap as fuck.

I've de-cluttered a bit but you're right, tomorrows goal is to straighten everything out. As for the furniture and the rug, they where here from the start (hence its the barracks)

I know the microwave doesn't belong on the floor but I'm gonna need another table or something for it because I don't have a spot for it now. I agree with all your statements; it's a shithole. It needs serious love and attention. Its my project for the holidays like I said in my post.

Like the other anon said, get some proper curtains or blinds (though it looks like you don't have a curtain rail...?) and some storage for your stuff.
If that's a laundry basket on your floor next to your bed, replacing it with something with a lid (like a small wooden box/chest/wicker hamper) will make it look way tidier and depending what you get it could double as a bedside table. Shove the plastic basket under your bed and use it when you have to take your stuff to the laundry room or whatever.
Putting a throw (+ cushions if that's to your taste) over the couch will make it cosier and add your personal touch to the room, you could even coordinate it with your bedding to tie things together. good luck!

Unfortunately I'm stuck with the furniture the place started with thanks to a lousy tenancy agreement (same for where the bed's placed), though I'm planning on bending the rules to be rid of that excuse for a coffee table at least. The shelves are mine to make sure I can stack everything, but I might just take down the 2x2 to make the place feel less cramped

This was also a picture straight after moving in, so the clutter's gone for the most part - have finally grown out of the figures phase thanks to fa so most of them are going into storage or being sold off
