I have wondered the same. If I guess correctly, it's like a satin bomber but much thiner, almost always with snaps, and they were mostly used as merchandise for small to medium stores, as promotion for products, as kits for minor league teams, etc.

I tend to associate the term with Starter or Felco jackets, named "Pro Jackets" by Starter when launched.

The original satins. I've seen some tour jackets, and they are similar to OP's thin ones because of the cheaper materials than satin bombers, but tour jackets are more alike to Alpha MA1

Similar as both of them are light, but windbreakers are zippered to the chin and have tons of variations.
