Was there a massive turning point? Seems like there's been a steady evolution but I don't know much about fashion history so you know.

It really comes down to either WW1 or WW2 because of all the work worldwide that went into making clothes as tactical, comfortable, and distinctive as possible.

The most obvious "turning point" was indeed postwar, in that RTW took over from tailored clothing. I would personally point to Dior's Bar jacket, but there are other specific garments (like Brando's t-shirts or Yves' piratey Rive Gauche collection) that would be an acceptable answer.

Kind of bad desu, t shirts degrade fashion, they show all the the bodies worst creases and they degrade self expression to whatever logo can be printed on the shirt.

1981: Rei Kawakubo shows Comme des Garçons to Paris for the first time. Almost every other designer is appalled by her collection, deeming it "Hiroshima chic" due to the outrageous silhouettes and the torn fabrics.

Not a moment and certainly not in recent memory, but the trend of Roman legions stationed in northern provides to adopt pants from the local population. Introduced a relatively local phenomenon to the rest of their known world. Nowadays Western men's lower halves are almost unanimously gonna be pants.
