Thinking about getting my first pair of Docs

What should I know about them beforehands investing on this?

I'm a sneakers guy so I haven't worn shoes like these before.

I bought my MIEs for 55$ on ebay, they were barely used
The monos (and docs in general) are not gywelted, otherwise the stitching would be visible under the outsoles, not on the sides of the shoe. Docs are hard (and probably not cheap) to resole
Also, as other anons already said, they need a break in period to be comfortable

>> No.13848932

>>13848076
People here will hate on docs but I've had mine for three years and they're still going strong (no wear that actually looks like it will develop into a problem) even though I don't take care of them at all and wear them for 2/3rds of the year. I have the monos in that pic and they've been great. Versatile and comfortable after break in. I get a lot of compliments on them and a lot of people don't even realize they're docs since they don't have the yellow stitching.

srs reply op, look you can either get nappa or the shine leather. The nappa is easier to break into but looks a litte drab after a while and looses its shape and sags however the hi shine leather is harder to wear so expect some heel cuts but they are tough nuts and it will last you forever if you treat them with respect. its a nice shoe - if you can afford solovairs get a pair instead of docs however docs are fine and still good. they are a little heavy and after continuous use the sole and stitching may break apart alas like every other shoe but im sure youve got like leathershop somewhere in your place so just repair.
its a workhorse shoe its effay if you rock them with some nice bottoms and a tee or something

>> No.13850485

Real talk though why do people even like doc martins?

The leather looks terrible. The "fused welt" bullshit is completely impossible to repair (although no one ever keeps docs long enough to care). They're made by slave children and the company was literally founded by an actual nazi.

Christ I just don't understand.

I've had the same pair of docs for about six years. They're grey boots and I regret not getting black. They will last a long time if you take basic care of them. I've worn mine to do everything from mucking my horses stalls to wearing them out to the bar. They are really uncomfortable when you first wear them, it's the only thing that has kept me from buying a 2nd pair. Like I mean absolutely painful to wear after the first hour when you break them in for several weeks.

Don't listen to these shills. Buy the docs. Buy kiwi waxed dress laces. Use Sno-seal to cover the yellow stitching. After you've polished your shoes 100 times, the yellow disappears. Or just buy the black mono ones. I wear these everyday

I agree that Docs and doc styles aren't that bad.

However, the quality of Doc Martens have definitely gone down since they started outsourcing their production. The company that used to make Docs in the UK still exists and still makes shoes of the same style, and of the same original quality. Anyone remember the name of the manufacturer?
