Guess I'll waste the idea with those straps or whatever those are called. Camelback too (except for the booze, yeah). But how do I make the fit look military, but not milsurp?

>> No.13843976

I bought a woodland camo jacket from the military surplus store cause it was quality and pretty cheap. Looks pretty cool too.
Pants like in OPs pic is pretty gay because you probably are never in a situation where it will be to your benefit to have those types of pants and they're of little to no utility to you.
For example I wear carpenters jeans most every day but I am a carpenter and they're useful, you on the other hand are wearing military pants for fashion and fashion is for homosexuals.

I think some military designs are just so good that "civilian" companies can't compete. Designs are made to fulfill a purpose, and the best are usually adopted. And surplus is the best for the price. Its like having faith in an Apple product, only the opposite qualities.

This ECWS gen 1 parka has zippers under the arms to convert into a poncho, very robust double zippers and snaps, huge pockets and hood, with a very high collar. With space for a liner, and access to the water proof layer so you can put tape on the seams.

I’m gonna go against the established opinion and say that you actually look mostly ok but made some big mistakes

Don’t cuff your pants while wearing casual shoes like that, and I think you should untuck your shirt.

Honestly I think the jacket is pretty nice, but the texture is fairly shiny. Try pairing it with shoes with a similar shine. I think the textile texture of the shirt and the hat kinda clash but I don’t know maybe it can work. Maybe unbutton the shirt and have a white t-shirt underneath

>> No.13850078

Nine times out of ten, a designer has done a more stylish and less larpy interpretation of any military piece you think is cool.

Surplus is cheap and all but it's cut and designed with function in mind. I pretty much guarantee you're not going about your day wearing six layers and storing your entire life in pockets on your person. Only people who live like that are homeless...

>> No.13850092

>>13850078
I'll try and be at least a little helpful though. Here are designers with lots of military influence. Buy second-hand when possible.

Nigel Cabourn - heritage British military pieces with a more modern cut

Helmut Lang - pretty much brought military clothing to the masses in the form of tactical sweaters, boots, and various jackets

Raf Simons - disciple of Lang

Martin Margiela - subverted the industry by taking actual milsurp and rebranding it with his own label, sometimes changing details as well

Dior under Hedi Slimane ca. '03-'09 and Dior aw12 under Kris Van Assche - sleek, often dark high fashion takes on militaria

Cloak - short-lived label by Alexandre Plokhov and Robert Geller generally focusing on period military garb with quirky details

Robert Geller mainline - Heritage military, a more down to earth Dior

Balmain under Christophe Decarnin - slim badboy military influence, especially ss10 (Decarnin) and ss14 under Rousteing

early Julius_7 - really dark post-apocolyptic goth shit that's sometimes overdesigned, worth a mention for the 'gasmask' pieces and their take on the German pilotenstiefel

Ann Demeulemeester - moody romantic clothing with a heavy Edwardian and military influence, key pieces being combat boots, jack boots, and officer jackets

there are plenty more but that's something to go on
I'm not hating on milsurp, just pointing out that without heavy modifications a la Knoch, most of it will fit you like a bag
