I could use some help /fa/ I let my mum buy my clothes for me my whole life and now that I'm at uni I realise that might have been a mistake.
I don't have much money but I was hoping you could give a student some tips on what to wear to not look like a retard (maybe even look "good"). It would be great if I could find the items in thrift stores and other cheap places.
In exchange I'll give you some nice images.

just start out basic.

jacket: simple black or grey overcoat for winter, military surplus jacket like m-65 for spring and summer
tops: black, grey, white tees
bottoms: blue, black jeans
shoes: docs or other kind of black bluchers from thrift

Im assuming you're a grill from the pic you posted and your complete and utter lack of personal details.

First, find out what your body type is so you can know what looks good on you. Then, get yourselfelf some plain, timeless pieces that you can build a wardrobe off of. Things like: a black button up mini skirt, well fitting collared shirt, low heeled boots, dark skinny jeans, maybe a turtleneck, NICE plain shirts (think Anne Taylor-esque), and some a line dresses

please never give women fashion advice again. your advice is incoherent, inappropriate and contradictory. you say to figure out body type but the garments you recommend yourself have no regard or qualifiers for body type

When you pick out pieces that are essentials I would suggest adding touches and pieces you like. Don't look at what others are doing generally just wear what makes you happy

Also to add on to this- fuck what everyone says Uniqlo is a great place to pick up basics on the cheap, good quality and comfy garms. You could get a lot of base pieces and jeans from Uniqlo

No shit. I didn't give body type specific advice because I don't know Anon's body type which is why I said to find it out. I just listed off a bunch of easy to work with plain items. I would have been more specific if the prompt wasn't vague as fuck.
I don't see you offering up anything better, anon.

you dont need to leave better advice to realize this is horrible. when was the last time you saw girls go to uni class in a mini skirt? an a-line dress? just google university class and look at candid pictures. people wear t-shirts, pants, yoga pants, sweatpants, longer skirts, and sneakers. you just word-vomited a bunch of random items you associate with women.

a mini skirt is not a "easy to work with plain item," especially on someone with a larger body type. a mini skirt is not something women wear to university classes. i dont know how this all got off either, op is very likely a man anyway.

this wasnt me but >>13836079 is much more sensible and practical advice

Not really man, I would try looking at some of the grid threads and looking at the minimal ones for inspo and take what you like from them.

Uh, where I live plenty of girls where aline dresses to uni. YMMV and OP should just look at what people around them wear and pick out pieces they like.

The area I live has very cute french fashion. Tons of peter pan dresses, sailor dresses, blouses, pinafores, etc. Yoga pants and tshirt would make you look like american trash.

I'm a guy, but if I ever decide to transition I'll keep that in mind.
As for details I'm 5'11" and darkskinned, skinny fat so I would probably avoid overly tight things.

My bad for leaving out certain details then falling asleep.
I'm a 19 year old negro (male) in my first year at uni, my current wardrobe consists of a few dress shirts and plenty of ill fitting t shirts with 3 brightly coloured hoodies on the side.
I have 1 pair of normal coloured jeans that fit me so I wear them every single day the rest of my trousers are sweatpants.
My go to jacket is my old torn up winter jacket that I should probably change soon.
It might be helpful to add at this point that I'm not a homosexual, and I am looking to attract women as well as just looking decent.

OP have you considered looking at what people around you wear, and then just buying the same stuff?

If all you want to be is normal then that's a good start.

If you want to be fashionable, instead of looking at people around you read fashion magazines.

if they dont dress like that in paris i strongly doubt, if not am willing to put down hard cash to bet that nobody dresses like that in africa, vietnam, or islands. it was one thing to say a-line dresses and miniskirts but peter pan, sailor dresses, pinafores? you're just making shit up
