Girlfriend bought me a pair for my birthday around March this year. I’d been meaning to cop them for a minute but she beat me to it. I wear these when I fuck around in philly and when I go to work as I have to hike my ass about 10 blocks from my parking to my actual place of work. Between my walk uphill to work and a full days work my feet don’t hurt and they’re pretty damn comfy. I highly recommend desu. They fit pretty true to size too. Prolly gonna cop another pair in a different color later.

Why do Americans (and Westerners in general) have such a hardon for Soviet/Russian shit? Is it just a case of guys over-mystifying "the other side" because it's different from what they're familiar with, or do y'all actually think primitive mass-produced kit meant for a conscript army is somehow superior to first world stuff?

>Why do Americans (and Westerners in general) have such a hardon for Soviet/Russian shit?
Because (in my case) the more you dig the more neat and interesting stuff you find- which branches off into neater and rarer stuff. Also because 9/10 times genuine Russian stuff is hard to come by if you aren't drowning in money or can speak Russian fluently.

>Is it just a case of guys over-mystifying "the other side" because it's different from what they're familiar with
In short yes, also a little bit of "you want what you can't have" mentality.

>t. from the former USSR and grew up seeing Soviet stuff all over flea markets and thrift stores
t. someone who has to either collect Russian shit illegally or put up with American price gouging

Seriously, there are enough bakelite and plum magazines to pave all the main roads in Russia with but somehow go anywhere from $50 - $120 a pop, which is beyond bullshit. Pic related cost me about $132 (shipping included) 3 years ago but now if you wanted to buy the same thing the cheapest you're going to get them for (in America) is going to be roughly $600 with shipping.

>Why do Americans (and Westerners in general) have such a hardon for Soviet/Russian shit?
Personally, I think it's just an interesting aesthetic. You're always going to have the kids and mouth breathers who are interested in Cold War Soviet shit in the same way you have people mystifying Nazi Germany's gear and guns. I think it's probably a bit of both the things you mentioned: that it's foreign, weird, and unique (at least in America), but there's probably a group of people that have subconsciously extrapolated fuddlore about the AK being better than the AR in Vietnam or whatever and applied that to kit.
The people who actually give a shit about functionality are already pretty aware that shitty waxed canvas is in no way comparable to good western stuff, and the people who do think it's better will likely learn the hard way once they get their hands on it (like I did).
I'm still a huge fan of the 80s/90s Soviet kit, but that all stems more from an aesthetic base. Sure, my Gorka is basically just a windbreaker, but it looks cool and people are interested in it. It's a form vs. function kind of debate, in that regard.

Those are some clean Bakes, but I thought it was the 7.62 ones that jumped up in price a lot. I could be wrong, but haven't the 5.45 mag prices stayed pretty stable, if not just increased slightly?

The problem with 5.45 mags is that they're all sold out and the only ones really left are the ones price gougers are selling. So it's looking like 5.45 is going the way of 7.62 sadly. Going to see if I can get my favorite Russian boi to slip me some 7.62 bakes because fuck paying $80 a mag. If customs get it, it is what it is.

Not a (((westerner))) but I grew up in the Czech republic, and recently I tried getting some more Czech woodland camo to compliment the Czech parka I got while I was back visiting in Prague, and it's just incredibly hard getting your hands on anything milsurp farther than Germany.
Not only due to the hard-to-get aspect, the American obsession with Slav or Soviet stuff is simply because Americans younger than 25 are obsessed with the eastern culture and life. I think the American lack of culture and the decaying of the western world is finally getting to them.

Also just go to Ukraine and buy some AKs and milsurp for cheap and sell it to stupid Americans for 5x the normal price
