acrylic is only really good for that vintage look, and ease of repair, a dab of polywatch usually sorts out any scuffs vs replacing the entire crystal if it was sapphire. that being said, there's absolutely no reason not to have sapphire in this day and age, especially for something that's going to get hit on edges at some point.

>> No.13775592

>>13775578
fair enough. if we really get into the nitty gritty of it, i'd pick sapphire because a crystal is a large surface area and more likely to get scratched, so i'd want that protection over shock.

for a bezel i'd go aluminum every time because its a small component but is more likely to be an impact surface if a watch falls down, so i'd prefer the shock proofing over ceramic. if it gets scratched an insert is cheaper too.

in my own personal experience of dinging watches left and right, i'm more likely to scratch a crystal and bump a bezel, that's why i'd go the route i just explained. of course, there are always those rare times when your watch will get damaged in ways you'd never expect.

being a versatile, practical watch wearer, some part wants to just stick it away because that kind of art and craftmanship doesn't seem right to be worn, since it might get banged on a door frame once a week. but it's also literally meant to be worn. so wondering how others would handle it, if they'd save it for special occasions or use it as a daily. would work on the day to day since dress is business casual to business formal, it's just... wearing something so expensive seems silly. more than 5-10x the price of the work wardrobe silly.

yes. rule of thumb is the more complications you have the more expensive the servicing is. if you just have a three hander no-date it'll be much cheaper than a chrono for example, so if the cost is prohibitive to you, factor that in.

You have to take the movement out take it fully apart clean it all put it back together lubricate it clean the case check and possibly replace all seals, pressure test the case and reassemble the whole watch. How can you even do that for less than 200 dollars.

I do a full service on a 7000-series movement for about $53. $65 if you also want is pressure tested, plus the cost of replacement gaskets.

Im looking for a watch:
1. Minimalist
2. As balck as it can be
3. Preferebly two variations
3a. Cheap, that i wouldnt mind loosing, like $150-200 max
3b. Quality one, lets say up to ~$2000

Any suggestions guys? I find Nava Ora interesting but its has too much of height on it for my comfort. I'm also thinking about mvmt ones (pic releted)

Swiss part 445, my arch nemesis.

Seriously so many Swiss movements from the 50's and 60's had weak set lever springs, and of course because of this defect the spare ones for most of these movements have long run out. I really need to set up either a miniature CNC mill or a laser cutter or something, since I sure as shit won't be filing new ones from scratch by hand for $15-$20 bucks, and these cheap bastard owners sure as shit won't pay me any more for it.

What do you guys think about the Citizen Eco Drive Bullhead 100th anniversary edition? I tried on one today. Fit my wrist perfectly, but it's so...cluttered. It's also quite thick and heavy. But it's quite stunning otherwise. Dealer is asking € 695. Should I go for it?

Looking for a watch that's both manly and classy at the same time and also has a chronograph. But not too much shit otherwise. Coming from a Timex expedition that I really liked, but willing to spend slightly more (up to €1000,-).

Any advice?

Got this one. Sweater because autumn is cold in the north.

A true classic, could not be much happier. I like watches that go under the radar, and though the white gold catches quite a lot of light, it's still less flashy than most of the 46 mm fashion watches i see daily. In the last three months I've gotten zero compliments and that's exactly the way i like it - this watch is only for me.

I won't tell you what to get, just be aware of a couple things.

1. Watches with big dials look bigger than watches with small dials.
2. "minimalist" watches are generally regarded as dress watches, and dress watches should be small.

As far as I can tell, Sternglas are a fashion watch brand. If you want something similar to what they put out, look into a Tissot "Everytime". Similar look, made by an actual watch brand.
