It's stands from now except for part 7. Stands themselves do change: in part 3 they're very basic "punches harder", "shapeshifting", "this one spits fire" etc. They get more and more specific and bizarre powers as the series goes on.

they spend copious amounts of time trying to figure where exactly Dio is in Egypt, although if you've made it halfway and haven't quit then you'll enjoy the rest as everything starts getting tied up for the finale with Dio (which as >>13741862 says, is totally worth the journey).

What are some good rules to for anyone to get into the『menacing』aesthetic?

Tall body, makes it easy but people who are shorter can make it work. Look at Koichi and Tamami.

Fit, although many look skinnier past part 4 they're infact incredibly in shape evedient by scenes where they do take off their clothes and their defined facial features. This is very important to looking menacing.

Other notable feature. A lot of these characters have something that distinguishes themselves easily from others. Whether it be a hat decorated in bling, interesting hair, etc.

Middle is best, my favorite character designs come from mid to late part 4 easily. Though in terms of pure artistic talent, part 7 is easily his magnum opus.
