College student with a decent bit of money tucked away, reporting in. I like upscale clothing but know there's no way in hell I could make a wardrobe buying clothes of that caliber, since I'd be dead broke. Some of it seems kinda overpriced too honestly. I feel like a lot of you bros are in the same position as me. Where do you shop? What brands do you like? Looking for places that value quality over buying into a brand name or status. In general, how do you be effay without burning away your money?

Grailed and yahoo japan for stuff I'm willing to pay a decent amount for, but i only make big purchases every month or so. Otherwise i thrift and buy cheap stuff on depop and uniqlo

There is no way to. Thrifting helps of course, though.
The best thing to do is to buy the stuff you want, since cheap substitutes will always be exactly that: cheap substitutes. you'll be disappointed when it breaks after 3 washes.
Just build your wardrobe one outfit at a time, we poor people will never have all the outfits we want but we can have a couple outfits we really like. And if you buy quality clothing it will last years and eventually you'll have a decently sized closet.

BUY CHEAP BASICS. DON'T TRY GOTHNINJA GARBAGE. DON'T TRY TO TEACHWEAR.

>Goodwill stores
>ebay
>clearance sales

Don't be afraid to buy plain unbranded basics from mallcore places like Old navy, gap, etc. Most /fa/oggots won't know the difference. All normies won't know the difference.

>DON'T CHEAP OUT ON BOOTS OR JACKETS. BUY NICE ONES.

Looking good is all about understanding silhouettes, what kind of clothes work with your body type and shopping accordingly, not about the logos on your clothes. You can buy a select few pieces that fit you well at Uniqlo and H&M and look better than most people. Of course your body type and overall confidence also dictate what looks good and what doesn't.

Browse WAYWT and inspo threads and when you see something you like, try to look into the fit and analyze what exactly makes it look good, ask if you can't figure it out yourself, and then try to find the essential pieces to your own wardrobe.

DO NOT buy mallcore, you really can tell the difference because you dress like a drone.

I doubt you could tell the difference between a $10 old navy plain black tee shirt versus a $125 MMM plain black tee shirt. Or $30 button up from fuckin Khols versus an APC one. As long as OP is in decent shape and some what attractive he'll be fine. We're talking about bein poor here not what's objectively nicer or better made. He's a college kid, no one is going to give a flying fuck if drops a paycheck on some Gucci if he can't even afford to bring his own beer to a party.

If you think fashion without burning money, I think that buying cheap stuff is not the answer.
Just buy smart designer goods, what I mean is buy stuff that holds the money that you're investing in.
Imagine if you go to the mall, buy pretty much anything, if you don't want it anymore you'll loose money.
But you can buy stuff that you can break even or even resell it with profit.
I think that vintage is kinda overcrowded, everyone is trying to flip old vintage polo/tommy etc like round two but all of that stuff is overpriced nowadays.
In relation to designers you have to be carefull, you have to know a lot about fashion if you buy new stuff. For example if you buy vintage Raf, that's a no brainer, will always go up in price. But new stuff people believe that something is going to be the next meme and then they burn. For example after the balenciaga triple s, a bunch of people bought the prada cloudburst thinking that was going to be the next big meme and they are sitting in stores. Is kinda a gamble.

Avoid anything trendy, as it will go out of fashion rapidly.
Avoid branded gimmicks, like the Gucci in OP pic
Get a few quality pieces to build a wardrobe on.
Basic stuff like T-shirts and socks don't need to be designer, mall stores and big box discounters can provide quality basics.
Thrift stores near upscale areas have deals.
Classic and traditional styles got those names because they never go out of style.

Even if you invest into nice stuff, you can only buy so much of it at a time, so I feel like that idea negates itself, even if you can sell it later

wise. any tips on where to look if you are a fucking 5'5/165 cm manlet?

Slim black pants, black socks, black shoes (you can wear a slightly thicker soled derby like doc martens or red wing postman). Tuck in your shirt. Make sure everything fits well but not too tight.

Yeah. I already do this with goddam /r/malefashionadvice tier clothes:( Biggest regret is the style I wish to emulate looks fucking horrible on me, but nothing else than buisnesscasual/streetwear looks even acceptable on my frame.

Thanks for the advice though, mate. I appreciate it truly.

how old are you? maybe you could also go with a softboy aesthetic (>>13668116), I think that could work on a shorter guy since the point is to appear unthreatening.

I'm 20. Won't be growing anymore either, been this height since 11.5. Doctors fucking missed my precocious puberty.

I can't go with softboy since my physique is stocky naturally. Otherwise I'd been on that train already :(
