Interstellar Hamilton is as much of a space watch as a fucking Omega speedmaster, maybe even better since it went to the black hole.

Speedy is the moon watch because supposedly some dude wore it on the moon in the sixties. BUT the watches you can purchase and wear now have not been to the moon and are exact replicas of the watch that supposedly has.
Besides it has not been proven the moon landings were real and not just an propaganda trick to piss off the soviets.

In reality the Hamilton has video evidence of flying into a massive black hole and the Omega has video evidence of being on the moon.

If you buy either watch, they have not been into any moons or black holes or space for that matter and are just exact replicas of the watches that did.

I have a few questions on buying a quartz watch.

1. When the battery goes low on power, does the inner workings of the watch gradually decrease in speed or it just stops?

2. If the inner workings gradually decreases speed, wouldn't it affect the accuracy a lot? How will I know if my watch is low on power?

3. How long does a quartz watch usually stays powered up?

If you try and convince them otherwise you'll only fall into the trap of being called a nerd. I always just turn it around and laugh/look of disgust at them because they are sensitive and they end up feeling sorry.

What do you guys think about having an all vintage collection and maybe a single modern beater shitter to compliment it?

I just can't buy modern watches anymore, I have enough wrist shitters as it is and buying a modern watch has no meaning to me. I see those stores as just storage, if I want that particular watch, I can just fucking buy it on the spot and be done with it, because of this some of the meaning is lost, there is no hunt.

When I buy vintage watches, the watch I buy is already rare and I have had to scout that particular timepiece for some time, it feels more like actual collecting and a hobby than just buying crap you like.

A QT Seiko arrived today from Buyee, caliber 3802, and another Pajeet one as a donor. The Japanese one looks worse than it is, a new crystal will greatly improve it. The Indian one is absolutely hilarious how butchered it is, I'll do pics of it tomorrow. I only need one nylon part from it, so it can't be rusted, so it's probably okay.

Update on grandpa's old Poljot. Here's how the dial looks without the messed up crystal obscuring most of the damage. Meanwhile my gran-gran told me more about this watch. He wore it in the early 70's, when he was in some metalworking shop and that's the reason why it's kinda messed up. On the other hand the back of the gold-plated case and the steel caseback are almost spotless.

However it's not running quite right yet. The center wheel is rubbing against the balance wheel when the watch is dial up, but only at one side of the wheel, so it's out of level. There isn't much space in these 24mm Poljots (though not as bad as later 26mm Raketas), so even a little deformity will lead to some scraping. I'll try to either level it out, punch the center wheel a little bit higher on its pinion with a staking set, or replace it altogether. Last case scenario I'll punch a tiny crater into the mainplate, so the balance cock would slope a tiny bit downwards, lessening the balance endshake.

Also the crown is just a temporary one I screwed on to be able to examine the movement, and I'll pick up a new crystal next week.

This seems common with these movements for some reason, both for the 1MChZ and later Poljot era, the center wheel is somehow prone do damage. However this watch has a replacement balance assembly, so that may be the real reason. The commies didn't stick brass shims under the balance cock for nothing.

It's something I think about. But to be honest my main collecting interest is in unusual tech, especially in the 60s to 80s, and so owning a single, say, sub and Lange 1815, which would be about the same cost as the collection, wouldn't be as interesting to me (not that I'd mind owning those two watches)

Uh

Anyways I am not inspired by your suggestions, I'm sorry. If I were to spend 30k on three modern watches, it would probably be a Lange 1815 in white gold, whatever the new citizen with the 1spy haq cal 0100 ends up being, and maybe the small blancpain fifty fathoms diver they released recently.

I mean that collection is pretty scattershot, honestly. There's no uniform aesthetic to it that I can see.

>Lange 1815
I don't know. I find the uncomplicated Langes pretty boring. Maybe that's just me. Also the idea of wearing watches made of precious metals does nothing for me.

>Citizen 1spy
Not too interesting to me. I didn't really get into watches for +or- 1 second accuracy per year.

>Blancpain Fifty Fathoms
I like these but I think the Sub/Black Bay is more versatile in its looks. If I was going to pick a non rolex/tudor diver I'd go with maybe a Rado Captain Cook or seamaster 300. I don't know, though the Sub is such a classic look.

Depends on which patek & JLC are in question. That said if I had choice from any of the top tier makers, I'd either pick a lange 1815 chrono or an fp journe chronometre bleu. The former's movement is absolutely gorgeous, same with the latter along with that unique blue dial & tantalum case.
