What's a good Reverso or Tank like cheapo watch?
Thinking of maybe a Seiko Solar, but I can only find it in "gold" and I'd rather have it in "white gold".
Or maybe something like a no complication plain face calatrava, but not germanized like a nomos that has sans-serif fonts (looks not as serious imo).
Max 300ish.

I could do better budget wise, but my collection got fucked after someone broke in and I've been reluctant to buy anything of worth atm.

This is the Vager Hauers Shi Chen watch. It's a miyota 8xxx with a slaved 24 hour hand and sub seconds. The slaved 24 hour hand is used for telling the time using an old Chinese system (Shi Chen hours) that split the day into twelve 2-hour periods based on the zodiac. It's a fun little watch, cheap, not bad price for a miyota 8x but not great.

This is a Borel Cocktail watch. It has two quasi-mystery hands to tell the minutes and hours. The seconds hand is replaced by a moving disk which produces a kaleidoscope pattern. It was a fund and fairly successful ladies watch in the 80s, I believe. Basic swiss ebauche movement. There were a few men's models but they were not as popular.

This is a Longines Ultronic, an ESA9162-based tuning fork watch. The ESA9162 was a second-gen tuning fork movement designed by Max Hetzel after ESA poached him from Bulova to make a tuning fork for the Swiss (Bulova ended up licensing their Accutron tech to Citizen, who incorporated the 219 design into the Cosmotron GX and the 218 design into their Hisonic, I believe, and also made movements for Bulova, particularly the 219, towards the end of the tuning fork era). The ESA9162 was redesigned to address some of the issues with the 21x series. Most notably, the attachment point of the index pawl to the fork was moved and the fork itself was made more symmetric, which reduced positional variance and shock sensitivity (both of which were in fact substantial issues with the Accutron movements). Many swiss makers used the ESA9162, including Longines, Omega, Tissot, Baume et Mercier, Universal Geneve, and some others.

This is an Omega electroquartz f8192, using a Beta 21 movement. The Beta 21 was the first commercial swiss quartz wristwatch movement and the first commercially successful quartz wristwatch movement (the first gen Seiko 35SQ was the first commercial quartz wristwatch movement, but was rushed to market in December of '69 in a extremely limited run, most of which worked horribly and were recalled. The replacement 35SQW worked much better). The watch actually uses an indexing system very similar to an Accutron. The Beta 21 was developed by CEH in Switzerland with battery life as a main priority. Before the Seiko 36 series introduced CMOS tech into watches, the ICs that divided the frequency of the quartz oscillator used a lot of power. Instead of dividing the 8Khz quartz frequency down to 1Hz and using a stepper motor, they divided it down to 256Hz using only 5 dividers and then used an index wheel to advance the hands, so it has a smooth sweep. Many many swiss watchmakers used the Beta 21 when it was initially released in 1970 (Rolex, Omega, Patek, many others) but it was extremely expensive and unsuccessful - most of those manufacturers went on to ditch the Beta 21 in short order and create their own quartz movements.

This is a 1940s Election Grand Prix with a cal 645 movement. This is a family watch from the period, passed down. The movement and dial are in, if not excellent, very good condition and the watch has been regularly serviced since the 40s. It's a pretty basic watch with not much to say about it.

This is a Seiko 5S21-7A10. The seiko 5S21 is a quartz watch that has a 4Hz stepper motor instead of the usual 1Hz stepper motor (hold it up to your ear and it ticks four times per second, not one). It also has a spring and a vial of viscous liquid in the movement that dampens the motion of the second hand to a truly smooth sweep (smooth as in spring drive, smoother than an accutron, which ticks hundreds of times per second but still ticks). This particular one has a 15-count pulsometer scale and a raised "chapter ring", I guess you could call it. The 5S21 was only made for a few years - maybe 1989 to 1991, I think? - but lots of dials and cases have used it.

This is a citizen cosmotron cal 5800. The cosmotrons are electric watches that use a hairspring to keep time. The Hamilton electric was the first electric watch, but had some reliability and serviceability issues. Citizen's cosmotron series came much later but was extremely successful. The cal 5800 ran at 43,200bph, which was the highest beat rate of any series-produced hairspring-regulated watch in history for a long time. The 5800 was a ladies-sized movement, although it was found in a few men's models. A system of electromagnets provides the impulse to keep the balance turning, instead of the standard mainspring. As a result, there is no power being transmitted through the geartrain like there would be in a traditional watch, meaningfully reducing the servicing requirements.

This is a Bulova Accuquartz 224. Towards the end of the tuning fork era and starting well into the quartz crisis, Bulova corporate did not take the threat of quartz seriously. Eventually, they retrofitted the Accutron 218 into a quartz movement. It still used a tuning fork, index pawl, and index wheel to advance the gear train, but instead of the tuning fork running at its natural frequency, a quartz timing circuit forced the fork to run at 341.33Hz. This is in some sense not too different from how Seiko Spring Drive, the Luch 3055, or the Timex model 62 work - a quartz resonator governs the frequency of a more traditional escapement. You can see the design on the dial is a picture of a quartz crystal (other brands did this as well - Seiko most famously, Longines as well on their ultraquartz, some others). The huge majority of the watch is parts-compatible with the 218, which saved on development and manufacturing costs.

hey guys, I need to decide on a watch for the collection I'll never have, so please help me to decide which model should find pics of and put them on a folder with all of my other broken dreams.
It has to be steel case, steel bracelet, 40-42mm diameter, no more than 12mm thickness, date display, automatic and black or grey dial. So far the strongest candidate is the Rolex Datejust 41 126300. Any suggestions?

Fashionable - So a vincero or a dw is a good watch?
Technically impressive - f91w has more advanced tech than mechanical watches, it is just more affordable because of production volumes and technological advancement
