Do you have money that isn't just "disposable" but "throwaway"? Get BdC

EDT has about 2 hours longevity and then it becomes a literal deodorant scent. EDP and parfum is much better than that but the scent itself is SO, SO BLAND you'd really have to be a 10/10 on a confidence scale or just not giving a damn about it - and in this case why'd you buy this frag? Do you like it? If you did you wouldn't ask us and just bought it given the "good deal" scenario

It might seem like I hate BdC but I don't. I do however dislike how it looks like a blatant attempt of cash grab on an overpriced product from a giant brand

What are your thoughts on Tom Ford Private Blend?

Any favourites? Where do you think they rank compared to other companies? I feel like the PB fragrances are in a weird place where they’re heading towards niche prices, but with designer appeal. Personally I think they’re among the best I’ve ever used, but also ones I would rarely wear except Oud Wood. Chances are I’d be more likely to order a sample of something like Tobacco Oud for a one-off event rather than a whole bottle. I just think they’re a little too... confrontational for most people around you.

They’re like art house cinema. Extremely creative and rewarding, but not something you’re ever likely to hear most people talk about or appreciate.

Also Neroli Portofino is proof that just because it’s expensive doesn’t mean it will make it last any more than a few hours for a fresh fragrance.

I've only tried tobacco vanille. It's probably one of the best put together scents I've ever worn, but it's one of those scents that I feel makes a loud statement and I just wouldn't feel comfortable wearing daily as a collegefag. Graduate this year though, so sky is the limit.

But back to the point, they generally tend to be some of the best in the class in the fragrance. Long lasting, moderate to extreme projection, and very well blended scents that bring out most of the notes. I don't really care about niche vs designer. Plenty of niche scents smell like something designer and vice versa. I do think they are overpriced though for retail, but I feel that way about most mainstream houses that charge that much. (Like creed)

Really like Tam Dao and Philosykos (but those are some crowd favourites). Liked Florabellio. Did not like L'ombre Dans L'eau at all (so cloying to my nose).

I've tried Aloha and Lemonice, the former being kinda bad to my nose, I don't quite know what I disliked about it but it might be the Neroli note, and the latter has probably the best opening of the bunch, with the drydown for me being probably as good as Bergalicius, and Lemonice also performed pretty well on my skin, given that skin scent thing I said on the other post and considering that where I live is currently on the cooler months. With that said, I don't know what I will do with Aloha and Naomi, probably gonna let those sit on my wardrobe for a couple months and try them again when the summer comes, or something like that. I may post again about Sapientiae, but not in a recent future, maybe in a couple weeks, when I'm really used to all the frags. Yesterday tried Memoir of a Tresspasser. Opens with a smokey boozy vanilla. Really reminded me of Cologne of the Mission which is a really cheap but really good vanilla scent. After a while some woods come through. It's ok, lasts a long time but these type of scents often feel like room sprayers.

Finally got a bottle of this. Really liking it so far. A little old school and a little new school. Lavender and some spices give it this almost barbershop kinda vibe, but it's got a lot more going on. Opens up bright and zesty with citruses, mint, and ginger while the birch gives it a woody masculine backbone. Then the lavender and a little sweetness comes out to smooth things out a little. Very uplifting, pleasing, and easy to wear, while still standing out from the crowd and being somewhat unique. Performance is at least average. Best in moderate to warmer weather but could be a year round frag. Could be dressed up or down but leaning casual. Any age can pull this off well. Really happy to have it.

And to that one anon who responded to my query about this frag a few months ago by saying that he buys out all the stock of this on ebay, eat shit. I got two more bottles on the way :)

We need to stop recommending old, garbage tier cheapies that nobody truly enjoys wearing. For under $30 and a little shopping around you can cop bottles of many "real" frags which are actually desirable. You may have to go with tester bottles and dig through ebay listings, but real bargains are definitely there. Tip: filter Fragrancenet by new arrivals and check for updates at least twice a week.

Pic very related. Recent 2018 release, possibly the best in its series. Smells like a blend of Polo Blue EdP and the first Mr. Burberry. Very fresh, modern, and perfect for summer. Why would we encourage anyone pay more for a 15 year old clone of a 22 year old fragrance, the original of which is itself completely played out?

how can a frag reviewer be "trustworthy"? it's all subjective. you have to find one your agree with most of the time, but that entails sampling dozens and dozens of scents already and forming your own opinion on it, which is harder to do compared to, e.g., music or film reviewers

Dead wrong. Old spice for women was introduced in 1937, while Old spice for men was introduced in 1938. So, the first Old spice release was for women, but the scent that we know today was always intended for, and worn by men.

Anyone else autistic enough to (correctly) call out other people's fragrances? I get strange reactions when I identify what someone's wearing. I asked new girl at work if that was Black Opium and she was speechless for a moment, I have no idea why. Sauvage guy stopped wearing Sauvage when I named it. Aventus guy seemed embarrassed that he had spent so much on something thinking it was rare and exclusive only to have it IDed on the first work wear.

lol. get ready for some backlash. people are going to make jokes at your expense about sniffing drugs or bombs. i think thats cool though, and have been working on being able to identify individual notes. have you seen the documentary linked in the OP? the training perfumers go through is insane, they can name synthetic accords note for note just off a whiff.

i am able to name some obvious notes that have been dominant in the industry lately like ambroxan and iso e super, and some generally familiar aromas like rose or incense, but lots of herbs, flowers, spices, and wood notes still run together in my head.

Years ago, in the early 2000s, I would see a fragrance note "study kit" sold at my local Pottery Barn. I always wanted to cop it but never did, though I sniffed the hell out of their demonstration set. The Body Shop near me also used to have a make your own scent service with a carousel of some 50-70 fragrance oils which you could sniff. I know most floral scents from that store as well as from gardening / visiting florists.

You can learn herbs and spices at the market. Pink pepper is good to be familiar with as it's popular. Definitely cardamom and anise. Nutmeg is semi common in men's fragrance. You can find fresh sage, rosemary, and thyme in the produce department.

Certain essential oils can be sampled at a Whole Foods or equivalent. You should be able to find patchouli, lavender, vetiver, and bergamot without much trouble.

The Molecule series are actually good for learning to identify modern synthetics. I enjoy wearing 04 / Javanol in particular and can really pick out "sandalwood" in perfumes a lot better after becoming familiar with that version of the note.

That said, I only really encounter super common fragrances, so IDing them isn't a tough feat as long as they're not brand new to me.
