So I know there's a thread up right now on Prep/Ivy League style. What's the European equivalent of that, though? Is it just whatever Prince Charles happens to like to wear? How do you show off your old money and status through clothes in the UK or France?

>> No.13573169

Technically it originated in europe, as most nautical themes and inspo can relate to england and france. I'm an american so I can't help you find stores but theres euros in the prep thread and I believe some of them linked a euro store or two in the previous thread.

Come on now young man, Holland & Holland if you must go down that route. The queen herself favours a Rigby.

And a piece of noteworthy trivia; if you're trying to be old money, "Hunting" refers to giving chase on horseback with hounds, Game Shooting is taking birds on the wing with a shotgun and Stalking is how one hunts deer with a rifle.

Retarded. That's Martha's Vineyard/Nantucket shit, you never see American prep items in England except on weird middle class larpers.

I wouldn't argue that, they're iconic. But Chameaus don't fall apart like Hunters made after 2005 do and given their creed in fieldsports that Hunters used to dominate, I along with pretty much everyone else who wears a pair to do more than walk from my house to the local Waitrose on a rainy day would say they've long replaced Hunters.

Well you wouldn't substitute a pair of wellies for riding boots anyway would you?

Next show you visit, try on a pair of leather lined Le Chameau Chasseurs, you won't want to touch Hunters again. You could go Neoprene lined if you plan to stand around in a cold field shooting birds all day too.

There used to be different dress codes per country. There were styleguides published about it in the 80s when the preppy handbook became a hit.

In france they refer to it as BCBG Bon chic, bon genre.

In the UK they call it sloane, and people who wear it sloane rangers.

You can still buy the books on ebay.

The Gamefair? I don't know, anyway, the rule of thumb seems to be that if they specifically shout about it, as in there's a big label inside with nice embroidery that says MADE IN BRITAIN, otherwise you can assume it's made in China along with everything else.

Right, my Chasseurs were actually given to me by a factor on Strathmore estate when I worked there so I've no feeling about trying to big them up because I paid whatever they cost now. £250 Or something? I use them for about 20 days of beating and shooting each year between October and February - if it's not actually that wet or there's more than an inch or two of snow I wear Miendls. I used to walk my dog for a good hour through arible and live stock fields every morning in them up until recently. I also wear them to go rough shooting for things like pigeon and rabbit primarily in muddy pine woodland and through bogs maybe once or twice a month. I actually used them for chemical spraying at work for about two years before I was given a pair of dickies to wear too. They simply do not leak. The zips do not fall down ever. The problems I hear about from other friends are that the zipper pull sometimes break off, but the zip still works, he just has to pull it up with a leatherman. On the cheaper models that just have a snap adjustment doo-dad at the top instead of a zip, i hear the rubber strap holding that on likes to catch on things and tear off making them a bit useless.

Worth remembering that the warranty will be invalidated easily and that if you wear the sole down quickly walking around town they cannot be rebuilt.
