I gave Patrick by Fragrances of Ireland its first full daytime wear today and was told by an older lady that I smelled like someone who tried to cover body odor with stick deodorant. I didn't have even the slightest hint of actual BO, for the record.

I personally enjoy Patrick, whoever recommended it a few threads back. However, fern and coumarin worn casually might be perceived as strange by normies in 2018. Or maybe one basic bitch just didn't like smelling it on a hot summer's day.

Is it unusual to wear a spring/summer frag during the fall or winter? Aqua Fahrenheit is obviously meant for warmer weather but I find that relaxes into a soft cinnamon-esque smell that suits formal atmospheres in the winter. But maybe I should stop doing that if it's just me that thinks so.

So I am 22 years old, somewhere in between athletic and built body, currently working at a bank, milspo midparted hair, creative/open personality (I know) and goes out clubbing every weekend.
What frag should I get? Anything that comes to mind that seems like it would fit me? I am mainly looking for something that gets a shit ton of compliments and I prioritise to first get a frag for nights out, so it doesn't necessarily have to work good while at the bank, but even better if you think it would work for that environment too.
I've went through a 30ml bottle of Eros and a 30ml bottle of Versace Pour Homme but none of them really felt right. I am thinking about trying out Ultra Male, do you think it would fit me?

I came across an interesting video talking about how we subconsciously look for smells that match and amplify our own natural smell. I do a lot of cardio, so the choice is to either smell like musk or smell like ammonia, because the bacteria on your skin is killed when you use soap. If you've ever smelled ammonia you know how terrible is it, its actually worse than burning electrical smell. Furthermore, soap makes my face oily and I break out, and it makes my shoulders dry, and they itch. Thus soap is a no-go pal.

Narcisofag here. This is really different from the EDT, doesn't have that wet concrete smell, although it is still a very linear scent from what I'm experiencing. What I get out of this is a clean and inoffensive musk and iris combination, much like its description pretty much all around the internet. If I may say, this to me smells pretty metrosexual, the musk is not really animalic by any means and the iris doesn't make it more masculine either. I don't know what else to say, maybe when I use it to go out I can tell something about longevity but since I sprayed it like an hour ago (one spray on each side of my neck) it didn't give any monstrous projection.

i've tried Proraso Red shaving cream & after-shave recently and noticed the fragrance mixes really well with Hermes Eau de Narcisse Bleu. in other words, does anyone know of any good Narcissus+Sandalwood fragrances? also, the sandalwood in Proraso Red isn't as soft as I usually find it in perfumes i've tried, definitely smells more woody in a sort of an old-fashioned masculine way

if it helps in anyway, the only other note in the Hermes according to Fragrantica is the generic "woodsy notes" and the Proraso also contains shea butter (unsure how that smells, or if it has one strong enough to affect the sandalwood)

I have another sample I picked up "for shits and kicks" and I got a lot more of the florals and other notes in it in the drydown. New to frags. Testing John Varvatos Artisan Pure on one wrist and Versace Eau Fraiche on the other....Am i wrong thinking these are similar? Artisan Pure seems more mellow whereas Eau Fraiche smells more vibrant. But they both remind me of lavender. On the tester card Artisan Pure definitely had a more citrusy / ocean vibe to me. for an absolute beginner i would say go to the mall, talk to the clerk about what kind of fragrance you are interested in or what smells you like, and sample. first on a blotter then try something you really like on your skin. look up the fragrance on fragrantica and check out the notes. see if there are fragrances you like that have notes in common. look up threads on basenotes where people make recommendations based on a note (eg, what's a good leather frag?). try the ones you see frequently recommended. rinse and repeat. your knowledge and experience will grow fast and large this way, all the while going down the path of what pleases your nose

Well yeah, that’s the thing. People expected Aventus 2.0 and Viking was never that, nor was it ever meant to be. The price point is a legitimate gripe, but you can buy it off a discount site, so it’s not that bad.

It is an interesting scent, you get the cool mint as well as the lavender and spice in the opening. The vetiver and a little citrus start to come out in the drydown. I’d sample it first, it’s not for everyone, but I enjoy it.

Bad idea. In most cases, they know nothing about fragrances beyond what they've been told to shill the Fragrance of the month™. They get extra for selling the shilled frag, don't expect to get any useful input from them.
Random autists on fragrantica/basenotes will give you much better advice than a clerk at shillshop.

Anosmia, also don't judge performance by the shillshop testers - they store their bottles under hot lamps so of course it will have worse performance than if you buy one that's been stored properly.
