In my experience, art that is overtly personal to you doesn't usually come across as explicitly so to an outside viewer unless you go out of your way to explain it. If sharing your art is something that interests you, you should try stepping out of your comfort zone. That other stuff sounds cool too, though

I respect your opinion. Although the fact that it is a copperplate etching print might explain the "chicken scratch". Also why it is so simplistic. My first try at printmaking, so just fooling around. Can't say I'm a big fan of what I see from you. Also don't really see much skill or technique. Do you have a better example?

Observational drawings and studies! Observational drawing is a great tool, set up a quick still life, draw trees in your backyard, have friends sit for a portrait. I found doing this and then doing studies of great artists' work the most helpful. Pic related is a Hopper study I did a while ago.

Your perspective is off. Like that old woman, her nose couldn't be so upturned that you can see the bottom if her eye sockets are like that. The old man next to it, his nose should be facing down more. Work on that shit, it's what i'm doing and struggling with so i noticed that immediately. Start with lines across the paper, lines up and down, circles, zig zag lines; then try still life things, but I would personally recommend to start by geometric shapes, do not go into details first.

There isn't an 8-step foolproof plan to improve one's art skills, and anybody who promotes or claims this is parroting what they read online a year ago when they had a fleeting hour of motivation to become an artist.
Drawing pages of lines, circles, and whatever /ic/ is trying to shove up your butt is a futile exercise, that will only dishearten you. Don't do it, it's stupid.
Instead, draw because you want to. Draw because you look at something and have an urge to recreate it on paper.
I know it is hard to start. You lack ability to create what you want, and that is incredibly frustrating. You will be mediocre at best for a while. But draw anyways. Watch videos of others drawing. Doodle whenever you can. Teach yourself to find release and comfort in drawing. To be able to work on something for an hour, and when you lean back in your desk chair afterwards to find satisfaction in it, even if it is trash. The most important resource to 'get started on drawing' is to enjoy it. The desire to improve your drawing will come with time. And don't be afraid to take an art class(best ones are held at local museums); a great teacher can help a lot. Self-taught is a meme, because you're not a prodigy.

Thanks. Hopper is one of my favorite artists. Probably took about a 8 hours over a week. It's an oil painting and what I tend to use are itanium white, yellow ochre, burnt sienna, cadmium yellow (light), cadmium red and prussian blue, sometimes ultramarine blue
