I'd look at Hamilton Jazzmasters. They're quartz, 40mm, and Swiss made. They're about 600 new, but I've seen some on eBay for sub 300. They have date features, and are almost always worn with a leather strap.

I have one and iirc those wouldn't even last in the shower.

I'd probably just buy a new black strap, the metal band looks nice but makes the casing look too small unless you have a smaller wrist. Almost unrelated, you should get the tan Seiko 5 as well, and buy a leather strap for that. It punches well above its cost and looks classy than you'd expect.

Cheers. Nomos makes excellent watches. A Tangente or Orion is timeless and affordable, can be had for less than $1800 used, sometimes a lot less. I have a manual wind tangente with date and highly recommend it.

Forgot to mention if Nomos is too expensive for you, look at Junghans and Junkers. They have similar Bauhaus designs at much cheaper prices. They’re good but you get what you pay for. Nomos movements are in house and decorated, but if you don’t care about that then I’d by all means go for a cheaper option.
