They were dark times for everyone

Imagine if you are old enough the 1990s. The unbridled optimism peaking in 1999. The millennium happens on Jan 2000. Hope for a new future.

By the summer of 2001 the US is announcing its withdrawing most of its troops from the world. 1990s fashion is still rolling strong just evolving into a more adult version. Racial tensions pretty much non-existent.

9/11 happens and it all goes to shit. All of the fashion goes to dark depressing areas combined with the baggy explosion of depressing thug rap lead to the embarrassing fits of the early 2000s. Music itself goes to shit as does the world as never ending wars begin US withdrawal from the world permanently off the table.

Compare the top 10 songs of 2000 to 2002. Such a simple comparison will leave you deeply disturbed if you listen to it.

Optimism killed for years. Deep down the 1990s fashion adoption by every day plebs is our culture's deep yearning to pick up where we left off before we were so rudely interrupted.

Think back

Every white kid was watching basketball and loved Jordan and other basketball stars before the league started thugging out.

It got so bad they had to institute a dress code in the 2000s. Before that the NBA adopted the depressing thug culture of the early 2000s.

Early 2000s thugwear arguably was one of the most racial divisive fashion developments since the 1970s.

Sexual dimorphism of our race, especially in caucasians, has been the basis for our basic aesthetics. And yes, people are hard wired, that's why the most attractive waist to hip ratio in women is globally, from pygmies to skandinavian, from the seeing to the blind from birth 0.7. Wait wait, so which is it? Do fashion trends follow political movements naturally, or does fashion come from innate essentialist instinct? A charitable read of you seems to claim it's both, to some extent, but you're also tacking on some moral judgements -- that fashion that corresponds with sexual dimorphism is good, that fashion changes resulting from "politics," feminism, and capitalism/da joos are bad somehow. Is that just an attempted appeal to nature? You allude to capitalism promoting feminism in order to use women as workers, but sexual dimorphism isn't an obstacle to that at all -- just look at housewife consumer culture in the 50's, or the female poor in any era. They worked just like their men did. So I don't think you have sufficient reason to claim that androgynic fashion is harmful. Even if we stipulate your historical claims about how women have never before tried to look more manly, which I doubt, you don't have evidence of harm.

>> No.13382995

Fashion is just planned obsolescence applied to clothes.

>>13382979
>Wait wait, so which is it? Do fashion trends follow political movements naturally, or does fashion come from innate essentialist instinct?
>beeing too simple minded to understnd anything of any complexity
Fashion standards occur mainly due to natural factors (like healthy bodies, which are pretty much universal) but because even those can change (war times, people are skinnier/ can't affort/ aren't allowed much fabric/ colours) things can adapt. This always goes back into the natural state (50s with their "new style" as women could affort to get bigger breasted and hipped again and fabric wasn't restricted). So, while politics can influence fashion, this is not the natural fashion of what people actually prefer, just like low rise in men and women.

>that fashion that corresponds with sexual dimorphism is good
No, it is what it is. SD is a fact so accepting that this is our natural preferance without outside factors is just beeing truthfull and or realistic.

> Is that just an attempted appeal to nature?
Nah, read again. Just because something is natural it's not always better. But if >millenia< have proven something to be pretty much universal to human kind it is healthy to accept it for what it is instead of trying to make humans to fit a political ideal. SD is a thing and therefore it is futile and fatal to the individual as well as the collective to try and make us into androgyn characters.

>but sexual dimorphism isn't an obstacle to that at all -- just look at housewife consumer culture in the 50's
Consumerism is even higher when there is double income. A housewife can only spend so much on useless shit if shes at home and has to feed multiple kids. DINKs are the ultimate consumers.

>So I don't think you have sufficient reason to claim that androgynic fashion is harmful.
Well, you don't because you have shown to not know really what has happened and does happen. Just check out Japan.

>> No.13383047

>>13383010
>being too simple minded...
Keep reading, the very next sentence explains why I asked that.
>while politics can influence fashion, this is not the natural fashion of what people prefer...
People adopt what they want to adopt. You can't claim that people want to adopt something because capitalists made them, and then also claim that they don't REALLY want to adopt those things, without compromising your claim that this is a functional account. It's not observation at that point, but ideologically motivated interpretation of the evidence, which are that people these days seem to prefer relatively androgynous fashions. You're not providing a WHAT, but a WHY, and that requires interpretation and judgement.

And yet, SD as reflected in fashion isn't necessary for the presence of DINKs. I already mentioned working-class women of pervious eras. What do you think poor urban women have been doing since before Adam Smith? Manual labor. It's not digging ditches, no, but as far back as Elizabeth I, poor women generally performed knitting or sewing for wealthier clients in order to survive, and that's just an example from the top of my head. If anything, encouraging SD in fashion seems more capitalist than not, in the sense that women wearing men's clothes is unacceptable, and that a household will have to buy different-looking things instead of merely what is practical to wear. So I don't buy that.
>blah blah, you're ignorant.
y-you too

Are you telling me, women worked? Because if that's the case we can quit it, s you obviously have no idea what I am talking about and think I somehow claimed that.

>that a household will have to buy different-looking things instead of merely what is practical to wear
Both sexes need different clothing to do the same job, simply because to do it properly it has to match the body and male and female have different bodies. Let alone that women need breats support and something to tuck between their legs during their periods or openings for breast feeding. Anything practicall has to reflect dimorphism. "buying more cloths" also isn't the core of the problem. Making women think and expect from them to play "man" ( as cloths change our views of us and others) leads to fewer births through fewer feminity and straight out harming fertility (with men look no further than skinny jeans, or women which bandage their tits to not look mature, or even the fact that yeast infections are much more often found in women wearing tight cloths instead of airy skirts with suspender belts).

Society works best when people work in symbiosis instead of rivalty of the sexes. A woman can't work like a man and a man can't substitute a womans mother role.

Correct. They work USING it. Humans crave incentives naturally, and they want to belong to groups naturally. You could say that this sets certain natural instincts at odds with one another, but of course, instincts don't follow a noncontradiction principle.
>>millenias globally aren't an observation
I already explained this. The claim, "fashion has reflected sexual dimorphism until very recently," is an empirical one that I'm willing to stipulate. Your conclusion, that this change is harmful somehow, is not.

>Are you telling me, women worked? Because if that's the case we can quit it, s you obviously have no idea what I am talking about...
That was a counter-example to your claim that the attempted elimination of SD from fashion is based on capitalist oppression of women. That model fails to take into account the fact that women were used as "wage cattle" previously, which questions the necessary link between "androgynous fashion" and "capitalist oppression of women," which you haven't shown.
>"buying more cloths" also isn't the core of the problem.
Of course it isn't. I brought that up to emphasize the lack of the necessary link I described above.

>with men look no further than skinny jeans
If it is true that men's fashion encompassing skinny jeans is a machination of a capitalist elite attempting to lower fertility, why are they falling out of fashion again? This just re-emphasizes the disconnect between your evidence and your conclusion:
>skinny jeans are coming into fashion. This must be the work of the capitalists!
>skinny jeans are falling out of fashion. This must be the work of the peoples' natural instinct!
You're explaining similar events in different ways. That's not observation, that's interpretation.

>skinny jeans are coming into fashion. This must be the work of the capitalists!
>skinny jeans are falling out of fashion. This must be the work of the peoples' natural instinct!
Nah, they fall out of fashion for the same reason women tend to stop using the pill. The negativ effects become known to a slowly growing majority. Just like bleaching hair white came into growing it thick and natural with native olive oil instead of silicons. It's a never ending battle against the forces trying to make people consum and the knowledge which spreads thanks to technology quicker and quicker about the down sides.

>Your conclusion, that this change is harmful somehow, is not.
My conclusion is that it will come back to high wasit and that the low raise trend was a artificial push which still fades slowly out of fashion, and will prolly only die when the uggos having grown up with them hero due to the inevitable crash of the pension system.

>your claim that the attempted elimination of SD from fashion is based on capitalist oppression of women
lol no
There is no such thing as the oppression of women, women were only a tool due to their nest building and higher consumer character as a whole.

>That model fails to take into account the fact that women were used as "wage cattle" previously
Everyone was used as "wage cattle". Everyone has to work to eat.

>which you haven't shown
Because once again you completely missed the point and inserted what you want it to be. I never claimed it has been oppression. I said that such political movements use fashion as a vehicle (cigarettes as the phalic liberation from muh patriarchy was another example during the degenerate '20s). To cut it short, watch the following as a tl;dr:

Oh, please. So skinny jeans actually fell out of fashion because men were frightened of the nut-constriction? Bullshit. But again, this only reinforces my point: you're not "just observing."

>There is no such thing as the oppression of women, women were only a tool due to their nest building and higher consumer character as a whole.
>Everyone was used as "wage cattle."
I mean, that sounds like "oppression" to me. Even categorical oppression, if women are being specially pressured to compromise their femininity/fertility. But we can call a spade something else if you want.

My objection isn't to the idea that fashion is a tool. My objection is to the gender essentialist horseshit, and the claim that tomboys or androgynous fashion are some kind of horrific aberration from Nature, or whatever. That I don't buy for a second.

You poor fool. Do yourself a favour and do some light reading on "critical theory" and try to understand how it is shaping the world around you. Dialect of Enlightenment is the precursor to this new philosophy that permeates liberal academic circles. It is the precursor to modern progressivesm and forms the argument for a reinterpretation of history and art through a 'non biased' (non-colonialist) lens.

Lookism is for incels looking to improve themselves so they can get laid/get a gf by looksmaxing. As the name suggests, looksmaxing is when you fix certain things about your appearance like you haircut, the way you dress, working out, and even plastic surgery in some cases. The black pill is basically the limit of success you can achieve with your genetics. Some people are born with great genetics that let them become Chad and others are born with inferior genetics and will never be Chad.
They have better explanations on the front page of their site.

I know what critical theory is, and I'm totally familiar with the argument that mass media is a tool of capitalist standardization. The thing is, I don't agree with that argument necessarily, which is why I'm explicitly arguing against it.
