13332169 No.13332169 [Reply] [Original]

I bought these shits a few months ago and only wore them roughly 10 times because of how uncomfortable they are. Do they get comfier the more worn out and soft the leather gets? If yes is there any way to do this without wearing the shoe?

i was given a pair of vans a few years ago because i'm a poorfag, my mate got the wrong size and i was wearing ancient dropping to bits shoes,

but they where instantly comfy and i still wear them 6 years later (although they look like shxx now) , 1st thing was the cat licked the suede off of the sides, then off of the backs (don't ask) then the rubber started to crack and fall off, then the stitching came undone, then the soles came unglued , now i could do with another pair

It's a common complaint from anyone who's old enough to have worn OGs.

It's not exclusive to 97s. A lot of retros are stiff and uncomfortable compared to their original release. 97s are just one of, if not the single most, worst offender.

97 standards were not all that much different than today. I really don't think people understand how fucking good some of these Maxes and older Nikes used to feel.

TNs aren't bad by any degree, but they've always felt about how they do now. 97s on the other hand, used to be light years ahead of TNs. Extremely soft and absorbent cushioning. Soft to the point of almost too soft. Nobody really used them for athletic activity because they were so soft. TNs and 95s always had a much firmer, more stable ride. Whereas 97,98,Dlx were like marshmallows for your feet.

I know what you mean, but the rereleases sacrifice a lot of the "quality" of the original shoes to keep the price decent and for the sake of mass reproduction. People want the silhouettes, but it's hard to find them in decent condition. most people who are buying now probably don't care :(

Some, if not most, def sacrifice quality. 97s/98s are be far the worst offender. It's got me bummed because the Max Deluxe is one of my all time favorite shoes. Ive been waiting for a retro for years, but they share the same midsole tooling that's been butchered so badly.

I dobdisagree with the notion Nike is reducing quality to keep the prices for the consumer down. It's 100% about increasing their profit margins. Re-releases of all brands traditionally maintained their original price point year after year. It wasn't until retro style shoes became the norm that companies started raising prices in line with the greater demand. Take the Jordan III for example; $99 in 1989, $99 in 1994, $99 in 2001, $99 in 2003... fast forward to 2006 when the retro trend was on a sharp upswing and $125 in 06, hmm let's introduce LS pairs for a $15 hike on top of that. In 09 a jump to $160. 2010 $170 and finally $220 for N/A white cements in 2013. They've reduced the price to $200 for recent releases, but these price hikes have nothing to do with inflation as people often tout in defense. Inflation costs don't apply to re-released products the same way they do to new ones. Athletes have been paid, Nike has no advertising or marketing costs, for retros. The shoes have been designed, patents have been paid and filed and in many cases, the tooling for manufacturing is already on hand. Its a matter of brands not undercutting themselves when they know they could be getting more for their product. I'm not mad at them, I just wish they keep the comfort and quality closer to the original.

Lol yeah, I've got closets full of unbearable sneakers. I know this feeling too well. It's a shame so many shoes haven't been retroed at all because there aren't even newer donor candidates for sole swaps.

Looking for an all grey, basic leather sneaker. The Zespa ZSP4 HGH Galet (picrelated) was the closest I could find to Common Projects, but they aren't even sold in my size (11 US Unisex). The Kent Wang benchgrade grey sold out in my size and after contacting them, I found out it will not be receiving a restock.

bro you have to wear ones every day for a year before heel drag becomes an issue. And besides, the whole point of a simple Jordan 1 in a clean colorway that's widely available and cheap is you can/should beat them to shit without a care.

you know you can try on shoes in stores before purchasing? I'm not trying to be smarmy, but this question gets asked a lot on here and it's crazy to me. Go into a footlocker or any chain sneaker shop in the mall, try on a bunch of models, find one that suits you. It will probably be in the $100-$200 range, it will probably have a swoosh or 3 stripes logo. Every foot is different, and comfort is extremely subjective. Asking for the most comfortable shoe is like asking "what's the best tasting meal."

And considering there was an entire thread on this where people ended up suggesting gats, boots and sambas, I'm gonna say this board is a terrible place to look for suggestions on any kind of comfort

Got some fit questions about Old Skools. Size 11 (what i usually wear) I can draw circles inside the shoe with my toes there's so much room. Size 10.5 fits snug with a little room. And size 10 fits like a glove -- my toe does barely scratch the front when I walk but the length is literally the exact length of my foot. I heard these stretch so wanted to know what you guys thought.

Also, any thoughts about Old Skool Pro/Lite? Something about them just looks different from the classics, like they're knockoff toy versions of the normal shoe, but I'm not sure if it's just me.

Highs are the original design from 1982. Then they made lows. Mids didn't debut until the early 90s.

Highs are still very common. Highs and lows feature the most sought after colorways. Mids are extremely popular in white/white, but overall viewed as middle of the mall tier by Forceheads.

You have to embrace the bulkiness. They are not a statement piece, and should balance with everything else in your fit. It can look goofy to simply wear lows with shorts. Skinny don't always work, either, but can possibly work if you have a really loose top.

I don't particularly like the jacket in this fit, but I do like how the pants and shoes interact.
