Why do Americans have such shitty fashion compared to Canadians?

Depends where you are OP. Toronto and Montreal are both pretty decent but every other place in Canada is ridiculously un-effay.

That being said almost all of America is just bafflingly retarded when it comes to dressing themselves outside of like... Manhattan

I was thinking this the other day. I went to Japan recently and everyone seemed at least decent. It wasnt some fashion mecca like /fa/ says but no one was offensively bad. It was like average and up.

But I walk around LA and its like a fucking apocalyptic wasteland. Paint dotted shirts from radio stations and baggy low quality jeans everywhere. Of course there are some well dressed people, but the range was way wider.

So my question is how is it even possible for Americans to dress so shitty? If you just went into Uniqlo and spend basically nothing you couldnt go wrong. Its like they're trying to look like shit.

There isn't a strict culture in the USA about this sortof thing. Japan is incredibly conservative in its culture, you'd be an outcast to dress like a fucking idiot. The culture(generally) of the US is "to each his own" which is why you generally aren't barred from working a normal 9-5 job if you have an arm tattoo.

So you have social permissiveness, nobody gives a shit what you look like and nobody will not talk to you because of it

Then you have the easy access to shit clothing. Walmart has incredibly cheap clothing, businesses hand out merch like candy, and then you have obesity being an issue here, so people generally buy large sizes.

Another reason is priorities. Most people put a very low emphasis on clothing, because theyre more concerned with things that actually give them positive feedback, like family, or hobbies, or friends, or drinking or whatever

the last reason is because these ugly clothes are comfortable. they aren't tight, they don't show off any undesirable features, nor do they highlight any decent ones.

Another example of people dressing nice is Italy.
