What you need in a clubbing scent:

-Big projection and sillage during 4-5h
-Sweet smell: Vanilla or Cinnamon

I'm not sure I'd back this description of CdG 2 Man. In my view it's just a lot of woody notes plus incense . Not really outdoorsy or earthy-dank smelling, which is how I imagine leaves. The woody notes are also probably not exactly going to stand out to a nose which is surrounded by freshly cut wood all day.

If you do go with something cedar-incense-y, consider Bentley Absolute as an alternative to 2 Man. It's much cheaper and has better longevity as well as more interesting (to me) development.

A big outdoorsy guy would be a good fit for patchouli fragrances. They are deeply earthy-woody, and generally have large projection to match his physical and professional stature. Patchouli dominant fragrances are natural, old school, and very masculine. Some of my favorites:
Montale Patchouli Leaves - full bodied patch, mildly sweet, featuring vanilla and amber
Dior Patchouli Imperial - perfectly balanced patchouli (neither grungy nor wimpy) backed by sandalwood and oakmoss
Boss Cashmere Patchouli - 80's style classical fougere with a patch base; nostalgia in a bottle
L'Instant de Guerlain Eau de Parfum - versatile, complex, and affordable (online) and a Basenotes favorite

Bleu is fine for summer.
Sauvage - meme's aside, is also find for summer just be wary about how much you spray.
Encre Noir is a bit too woody for me to personally wear in the summer but if that's what floats your boat go for it.

I'd try fresher scents for summer: ADG Profumo is a good place to start for summer scents.

The only one out of those I'd personally wear in the summer is Bleau de Chanel, and even that's borderline. To each his own, I guess, but I find it really tricky wearing anything other than rather simplistic, fresh fruity, floral or green scents in the heat. Unrelated guy here. Sur le Toit is far too sweet and skews very feminine.
I am in love with Apres la Mousson. On a balmy night on an exotic tour of Bangladesh back in the hotel, it suddenly hit me: the smell of the rain, the dusty soil and ripe fruits from the market in a distance and the dry cardamom spices: I recalled the brief encounter I had with the perfume right before going. I bought it immediately once I came back.

Sur le Nil is also a very nice, strange smell but very easy to pull off. The mango and aquatic notes are very exotic and sophisticated and is really evocative of a garden in some foreign land.

To be fair the only pricier thing "high end" frags use these days are Trademark wood synths and probably a bunch of white musks as filler/diffusion/sillage i.e Velvione, or compounds such as Ambrettolide. And with a lot of niche lines popping up that basically use a IFF perfumer or other perfumer to remake a concentrate that they just sell under their "brand", it's getting pretty depressing how many things out there are trying to make hand over fist with very little input to what they are selling apart from "oh we had an artistic vision!"

I don't know if I agree. There are associations that are imposed by society, and they're not complete bullshit either. Plus, differences in perceptions of ambroxan and ISO between men and women, that sort of stuff. Women generally avoid Oud and similarly "dangerous" scents.

I have a rather edgy style overall. When I say I have a masculine appearance I mean specifically my body, facial structure, hair styling. What do I know, maybe it'd play into it. Not sure I'd feel confident in this coming on to a woman though.

Myrrh is among my favourite notes. Violet kinda screams older gentleman to me.

Anyway, the only thing that really makes me think of a fragrance as feminine is intense fruity sweetness. Even that doesn't even matter once I smell it on a person, though. Just wear what you like, I don't think many people even consider the gender of your scent. It becomes a part of your presence after a while.

If someone wanted Aventus but with the smoke switched out with some herb/bitter notes, what should he sample?

>> No.13319081

Incredibly mediocre, with awful performance.

Compliments from mum and grandmuh don't count, anon.

>> No.13319090

er what? both of those notes are not only flexible but myrrh and violet are classically masculine notes. a lot of florals were deeply masculine until recently, now apparently masculine colognes are all about gourmand sweetness

examples of violet:
knize - two (1978)
geoffrey beane - grey flannel

myrrh:
dior - eau sauvage (1966)
ysl - body kouros (2000)

I’d say it depends. My stepmother knows fragrances pretty well and will tell me if she likes or dislikes what I’m wearing, so I’d say a compliment from her counts.

Funny you should say this, I'm a fan of TV and Feve Delicieuse...

Call it fragile masculinity if you must, I just personally associate violets and lavender with my mother.

Man amouge has a ton of bangers.

This is like habit rogue but a lot more modern. I get a lot of the vanilla, sandal wood, and rose like in Habit Rogue, but none of the dustiness

What would be a good summer wedding or formal scent? I have autumn and winter covered with Body Kouros and soon possibly Uomo Intense but I'm stumped for an upscale (preferably designer price range) hot weather scent.
TDH Eau Fraiche perhaps?

Grey Vetiver is an excellent formal. You could try Amouage Reflection too, might be more wedding suitable than the "cool and salty" GV.

I just fell in love with a new fragrance and I had this long review of it I was going to post, but I decided to keep it to myself because I don't want to drive up demand for it. I like the cost where it is, but it's seriously the best fragrance I've ever smelled and it's dirt cheap.

Buy eros or la nuit or someshit, or aventus.

Tiziana Terenzi Orion, the smokiness of Aventus is framed differently and it has noticeable oud/incense combo. For me, it's "winter Aventus"

There is also Cedrat Boise, have the same vibe minus smokiness and pretty good performance, considering to buy this for summer.
