Give me some insight into androgyny, /fa/. More specifically, hairstyles, this time.

The norm seems to be "if you're female, shave your head, if you're male, grow your hair out".
But does it really have to be like that?
If I'm female, can I not look androgynous with long hair?
If I'm male, can I not look androgynous with short shaved hair?

All the other options I see are impractical, downright ridiculous meme haircuts like "can I speak to the manager" like pic related.

I know androgyny lies beyond a hairstyle, like genetic lottery and how you dress and your manners, but give me some insight here, please. Some inspo in general.

Here's another example. Google "androgynous hair" and all you find is tumblr genderfluid females who probably call themselves Ayden or Skyler with meme shaved short hair (and likely some ape ear plugs and piercings).

It is kind of this game where while you're insisting that you aren't male or female and are outside of the gender binary what you are definitely actually doing is adopting the social conventions of clothing and grooming of the other gender. You know how Ellen is a woman but has a man's haircut and clothing? That is really all there is to it.

I know someone will claim there is more but that's pretty much what it all boils down to. Because many young people take a while to develop strong secondary sexual characteristics there is a slight aspect of youthfulness associated with androgyny but once you grow up a little more it just looks too pretentious and awkward.

You're gay, cool, where the clothes that are designed to fit your body. If you're a lesbian and you think you're awesome because you have a tailored vest on over a tank top, you aren't. You look stupid.
