been growing abt 1 year 8 months, havent shampoo'd it in 9 days because my (((art major friend))) said after like a week or two it naturally balances out the oiliness
somehow it feels both greasy and dry at the same time

OP here I have the same hair more or less. This is what it looks like without washing it for about a week and zero product. I recommend washing once every 7 days as its good for your scalp. no poo is a meme as far as I know.

Here is the same hair one day after shampooing. FYI when you have corse curly hair like we do. shampooing will make it BIG and fucking tangled for atleast 1 day. Because the shampoo, while good for your scalp removes all the oil from your hair. hence the frizz, curls, tangles ect.

I recommend using anti frizz products and argan oil spray to mitigate the frizz. but something people with curly hair need to understand

After you shampoo it WILL be a curly fucking nightmare cause the oil is GONE. Give it a day or use products to get your hair tamed like mine. Or if you dont mind using flat irons do what I did in the OP pic.

Also as curly hair gets longer the weight and length will make it less prone to fluffing up like an afro. Shampoo days will be bad hair days so just out it in a pony tail and forget about it.

Also dont ever use a brush, use a comb, preferably wide tooth and made of wood. Comb your curly hair every morning and every night before bed. Keep it happy and it'll look better.

Your in the awkward phase where I was growing mine just 4 months ago. Keep at it, push through it. good luck.

I don't think you look bad. Your at the dreaded awkward stage. Your hairs not quite long enough to style, but not short enough to look like a normal dudes cut. If you can suck it up. Grow it out more. if its dry, as in like straw, buy a moisturizing conditioner. Use it daily. If its dry even after that maybe get some Argan oil. You can get it in a spray form at most stores. spray a little all over, and comb it through.

Dont ever brush your hair when its wet, you’ll damage it. Comb it, or use youe fingers. Hell I never brush my hair, thats a big no no for curly hair people. Keep conditioning, maybe cut down on shampoo, you dont meed to do it that often. All though everyones different so if issues arise feel free to shampoo regularly again.
