thrifting my man, looked high and low (no pun intented) for them but most I could find was some regular rise chinos. Never could find all the details I liked, pleats, wool and cuffs. So I just started thrifting pairs that are too big for me and taking them to a tailor. Now they fit exactly the way I want them to, with all the details I like, with high quality and at a ridiculous cost (20 bucks with alterations)

Here's the only one I have saved. Would remove the belt from the fit and untuck the sweater but you get the idea. I'm 1.78cm (5'9 I think) so high rise seems a lot better proportions-wise.

I'd say that the another important factor are the suit's fabrics.
In my opinion heavier fabrics fit suits better, nowadays most suits just look cheap because of this.

It's really all just modern suits being cheap in general.
When you are making cheap, you substitute hand work for machine work. 'hand made' is the biggest fucking meme in nearly all industries but tailoring. There are many techniques in handmade suiting that are circumvented in mass produced suits because no-one wants to buy expensive-ass suits anymore when cheap suits exist. So there's really no reason to invest millions in r&d to improve upon the pre-existing techniques.
My second point is suits being fused rather than canvassed nowadays. Canvassed suits have a thin but quite rigid layer of cotton+horse/camel hair blend between the lining and the outer shell. Nowadays to streamline production they use a polyester fusible which is impregnated with glue so it can be quickly ironed on place. This results in the signature bad drape of the cheap suit. Also the shell fabrics are more than often laced with elastics, which help the suit to fit a wider variety of bodies. These elastics degrade over time and leave unsightly bags in the suit.

There's nothing wrong with shitting on a lack of padding. Ffew men can actually carry off the look and it looks especially bad on sloped shoulders. Too little padding can lead to a bottom heavy look aka a pear shape or make one look too effeminate.
