Has anyone tried L'Homme Cologne Gingembre?
Seems like it's rated pretty highly on fragrantica for spring + summer.
But it looks like people also complain about it lasting a very short amount of time, as in 20-30 minutes max.

Is this a case of Great frag, poor performance?

Equipage Geranium, 2015

I suppose this is a review.

I wanted an modern equivalent of Eau Sauvage, i.e. something clean, civilised, and elegant. ES has been gutted in reformulations, and in any case it smells too powdery. I wanted a non-statement fragrance, a fragrance that says, "I just happen to smell civilised," as opposed to "I researched the classics and decided to wear something that was fashionable in the 1960s as a calculated gesture."

In short, I'm looking for the razor's edge balance between modern and classic. ES lags in modernity. It doesn't smell like something a gentleman would wear automatically; except among the elderly, it's become a gesture.

Equipage Geranium has the right pedigree and hits the right notes while avoiding the citrus and powder of Eau Sauvage. In fact, ES smells like high end 4711 compared to this.

Minimal citrus. The top is faintly similar to shaving gel, which I suppose is the geraniol element. But none of the sharpness. Zero powder. The overall impression is fairly seamless; it smells like a honeycomb, as opposed to honey; the faint sweetness of the geranium and spices combining with the warmth of the sandalwood. Some greenness and almost subliminal hints of mint, which is a thousand miles away from toothpaste mint; it smells like edible mint. I can't detect any patchouli, which is one of the reasons I avoided the original Equipage of 1970. There are absolutely no outdated or overdone notes; it all sort of congeals together seamlessly, like the smell of a honeycomb still attached to a living branch.

Club: No.
Date: It's very pleasant but won't make women swoon at five paces.
Work: this is impeccably tasteful and what I would want my doctor or lawyer to smell like, if I didn't want to hog it for myself.
Age: Probably not for university students unless you are very preppy.

Very nicely written review! We (or I at least) appreciate it a lot.

I haven't tried it but I do have a decant of vintage Equipage which I found and grabbed at a great price. Unfortunately I never took to it- too artificial smelling and even while being green the patchouli makes it uncomfortably dense to wear in a hot climate where I live.

Again, really appreciated the review. Do you have a basenotes account? I'd love to read more of your reviews.

Amouage Beach Hut. Has a bit of citrus, but then, almost everything has at least a little citrus in it, but it’s not citrus heavy. It’s like a subtly sweet, green, dry, woody, mint/vetiver scent. Give it a try, it’s really nice despite the somewhat goofy name.

I have one full bottle and a handful of decants I purchased a couple years ago. The bottle is a daily driver/all occasion for me. I'm always looking for decants/samples but it's a bit more expensive and hard to find stuff in Canada.

The large collections are cool to look at but go off into rich autist/neckbeard territory. I guess my end goal is a few bottles of stuff that's inexpensive but highly wearable that I can see myself using a lot of and a well-sized collection of interesting niche frags.

Alcoholic and boozy are not the same thing. Boozy connotes heavy, smooth, usually sweet notes. There can be alcoholnotes that are not that, like Kilian Straight to Heaven’s rum note. It has an alcohol note, but does not smell “boozy”. This is why the term exists.

Not that anon, but I actually don't buy full bottles. A majority of my collection are 10 to 15ml decants, unless I really really like the fragrance and think it's worth getting a full bottle.
15ml is enough to last you a good long while and it's a good alternative if the full bottle is something I can't afford. It's more than enough to go into my regular rotation for a few years at least. I think it's a smart way of doing things.

those are commonly available fragrances too so just go to your local mall to try them.

Although it's about the point in the year where I stop wearing strong winter frags in case it's warm outside (or the air con at work is either too hot or cold, ended badly when it packed up on New Years Eve while I had Ultra Male on) and the projection gets unpleasant.

>> No.13257526

I collect vintage fragrances, and while their top notes may dissipate (just like the other anon says), what is most likely to happen is that the perfume has time to macerate in the bottle, becoming smoother, and the alcohol often evaporates even in sealed bottles, making it more concentrated. So often what you find in really vintage fragrances (I'm talking about 7 years, not 1 year old etc) is they smell stronger and smoother- if they haven't turned at least.

One in each armpit from ~6" and one on the chest from 12"-18". Inside of one or both elbows (close range) for any additional sprays.

I've learned that the armpit thing strikes a lot of people as weird, so I'll explain again before the spergout: the pits are an ideal place for perfume application. They're among the warmest places on the body, helping your fragrance to radiate assertively and continuously. Hair also holds scent longer than bare skin, and most of us don't shave our pits. And when wearing strong fragrances, having one or more layers of clothing between the perfume and those around you can help to moderate the sillage somewhat. You may not want to wear Aventus on your neck for a day at the office, but a light spray in each pit could work out just right.

I'm a super-hygienic, two showers per day kind of American, so I'm not trying to mask or hide any trace of body odor. Wash with deodorant (Dial) bar soap and use a quality unscented deodorant like the Crystal or Schmidt's.

>Neither. They're specifically formulated to appeal to the masses and possess no artistic integrity or quality. Both are generic, common and bland. I'll never understand why smelling like every other person is acceptable to most. Scent is a personal preference that shouldn't be dictated by the amount of compliments one receives, trends or hype. Niche is harder, but that being said, I've gotten big decants from Serge Lutens and Amouage even so I'm quite proud of that. The worst is Frederic Malle, those straight laced people.

It adds to the satisfaction knowing that I spent almost nothing on my collection and that it's a challenge to get them. If course if it's too much of a challenge I do sometimes give up and just buy decants off of members on basenotes etc lol

Sorry for the cliché answer, but I'd say it smells the same, but different. The EDP concentration doesn't make it any stronger, it matches the original in performance. Where the original is dark, green and minimalist, Extreme is warm, resinous and refined. It still has that earthy, soil-like base of the original, but it's subdued a bit by incense, which dominates the entire fragrance. The ink note is now spot-on and iris is noticeable, making it slightly powdery, like Dior Homme but to a much lesser extent.
Since you said you love the original, then extreme is a safe blind buy if you want to mix things up.

Cool water. Smells the same as Green Irish Tweed, without the price tag and the faggotry

Anything Anise or Vetiver based : anise based frags are not the most common but the Azzaro Pour Homme "Summer edition" is worth a sniff. In the vetiver vein, Carven's one is nice but might not hold ; Guerlain's one is way too heavy for summer but might work on evenings ; Givenchy's is a love/hate one ; and "gas station"-tier cologne with vetiver might be of a good surprise because they might be weak in a very appropriate way for summer

Well it exists second hand.

Wearing the last of this EdT and honestly unless the edp brings more to the table I can't imagine paying the prices this demands. It's a nice fragrance certainly, but I can't imagine there is something here nobody else has gotten similar to.

It's a nice fragrance, I'll give it that, but 200 for the edp? Fuck nah

No, I don't wear JPG frags because here they are associated with blattant faggotry, because of the JPG faggot himself. I mean "he" managed to get the castoreum note to be associated so deeply to gay men that even Kouros is now a "free-butthole" callsign.

Bond no 9 Madison Ave is an extremely feminine modern chypre. Twelve hour longevity with interesting development. Very noticeable, assertive stuff, but not as chokingly sweet as other recent fruitchoulis (Mon Paris, Mon Guerlain, Lancôme La Vie est Belle). Spray it on your skin at Saks and smell it tomorrow. Available at online discounters.

I've sampled it. If you like rose there's no way you're gonna dislike it. I personally enjoy it quite a bit but propably won't buy because in the long run it becomes boring to me. It's very inoffensive for a rose frag and stays pretty much the same throughout its 8hr+ longevity. I've also heard people say it's a bit feminine ( because of the rose I guess) but I see it more as a unisex. I'm not expert on frags so that's about all I can say about it

I didn't really give it a serious wear. I just kinda sprayed my chest when I got it ( might break it out today)

Performance on my skin was pretty good though. I was still getting whiffs at the end of the day, and faint skin smell the next morning. I think hanae Mori kicks the piss out of it, but it's a real nice scent. A tad fresher than him for sure.

I think the performance issues aren't as big of a deal. I mean scents in the warmer months just tend to not last as long, which doesn't really bug me about gucci. It's a little pricey though. I'll post a better review of it when I get a chance to wear it out. If nothing else, I can't think of any other scent like it other than hanae Mori.
