I've been wearing Vetiver by Guerlain for over a year now
Definitely love the scent but I don't think I'll buy another one

The first seconds/minutes bothers me. It's hard to explain, but I find it too "fresh", kind of lemon-ish
Not what I was aiming for

Is there an alternative Vetiver, halfway from Terre d'Hermes let's say, you'd recommend?

I own Pulp, Oud Immortel, and Bullion. All three were love at first sniff, though Pulp has run away as my favorite. Very creative green fruit scent that feels simultaneously dry and juicy. To smell Pulp is the olfactory equivalent of taking a bite out of a Fuji apple. You can almost feel the meal and skin of fresh fruit in your mouth. Surprising even when you know it's coming. Huge sillage and excellent longevity.

I don't yet have very much to say about Oud Immortel as I've only worn it a few times. It requires that you enjoy limoncello and as with Creed's Royal Oud, its oud is more of a presence than a note that you can readily pick out and identify. The primary accord is the almost candy sweetness of limoncello, with a sort of woody aura surrounding it. I need to give it more wears.

Bullion is especially fantastic at the opening spray, all saffron and juicy sueded plum. The note list makes it the most oriental Byredo. I appreciate this one's uniqueness - also, I'm always a sucker for plum in a perfume, which is why I copped it. Though Bullion performs perfectly well, I find myself wishing that it were as nuclear as Pulp.

I have no testing experience with Mojave Ghost. Was interested in Bal d'Afrique but found a deal on Vetiver Fatal instead, which is an alleged fraternal twin scent from the same nose. Will probably cop Accord Oud and maybe Westbrook.

Hey call me weird but I am intrigued by the smell of ginko fruit. Its really pungent. Some people hate it saying it smells like poop or jizz, and I can agree with them. But I am seriously attracted to it since it's so raw and powerful. A break in the mundane scents of daily grind. Is there a perfume at the same power level that isn't as off putting to other people. I don't want to smell like fresh dooky or nutt butter.

I think I need medical help or something because a cologne recently stained my sense of smell. I don't understand the science or the technical aspect , but 5 months ago (yes 5 months ago) I sprayed a cologne on. And ever since, atleast 7 times a day I get a wiff of the smell from that cologne. It's not on my clothes, I changed and wash my clothes every week. I shower ever day. I still smell this cologne at random times and it's driving me crazy. Anyone heard of anyone else having this problem or something I can read into to solve this. I don't want to say the cologne, just incase if it comes down to a lawsuit or they used some type of chemical in it. I'll say it's an expensive niche fragrance only.

What excactly makes the longevity of summery citrus scents so bad?

>> No.13235861

>>13235839
molecule size

my question is why don't they just concentrate the hell out of citrus molecules. for example, u100 insulin is regular acting and u500 insulin is long acting simply due to the molecules stacking on top of each other due to the concentration, thus taking longer to dissociate and be utilized. why not do the same with citrus molecules in fragrance?

of course there is the aspect that perfumers don't want it to last long- they want you to use more of it, so lasting shorter and requiring you to reapply more means you have to buy more product.

I don't know the science behind it, but perhaps it's not all as simple as that. I'm sure it changes what the molecule smells like.
Interestingly, Luca Turin has experimented with this before"
"What makes a molecule last long is mostly its weight. Adding a carbon (weight 12) usually doubles the time a molecule stays on your skin... (a) popular dry citrus-lime topnote... We made the thiirane. To my delight it smelled very close indeed to the original, but went on forever...All but two of the perfumers loved it; the last two said it smelled of skunk, not lemon."

Apparently the molecule created smelled different to people with different genetic variations. Weird.

Pure Havane is great and worth it for the longevity, but I think it's just too late in the year to buy it now, the warmer it gets the less I'm wearing it. It's really not one to wear in warm weather with the opening scent. ADG Profumo though I found great for work in a fairly similar environment, performance lasts whole shifts, is noticeable but isn't offensive and fits almost flush into that budget. On the other hand BDP is a perfect any occasion all-rounder for that budget.

The One lasts a full 8-hour work day on me (and that's just the EDT). It doesn't project across the room like Eros or Sauvage but others close by can smell it even after I finish work. This is also the case with every IRL person I know who owns it. As a matter of fact, the only time I ever hear complaining about The One's performance is from autists on the internet. varies with temperature and humidity

As a rule, warmer and more humid environments will cause the perfume to break down faster. Worse are climates that vary in temperature. Store your scents in a place where the temperature is more or less constant; hills and valleys in temperature are not good for the stability of a lot of compounds plus encourages evaporation. People will insist that quality bottles don't let humidity in/out, but we all know that over a period of a year at least some humidity will enter/exit a vessel, regardless of its construction.

Your scents should last one to four years, depending on what they are and how you've stored them. Some scents will break down or mellow out over time. Citrus oil is a good example of an unstable odour, breaking down over time, especially with agitation and temperature variation.

Having said that it's a high quality classic for a bargain if you're the kind of 30+ macho man who can pull it off. Even then, I can't think of a situation it would fit.

Any ideas on how to fix a faulty sprayer?

I have a 200ml bottle of Sauvage with a sprayer that takes noticeably more finger pressure to work the atomizer, and the spray pattern is more narrow and elliptical than a nice round distribution. I had a 60ml bottle before this one and the sprayer worked fantastic like Diors usually are.

Olivier Creed VI. is either:
1) Some guy with a lot of passion and some talent for parfumery who revitalized the family business based on the recipes amassed by five generations of his ancestors, tailors by trade who also supplied perfumes to their very select clientele. For what we know the composition and the manufacturing of these might have been outsourced to independent companies/noses, who provided Creed with the product made exclusively for them. The lack of pre-1980's evidence is explained by parfumery being a side business and the small number of clients who didn't feel the urge to store empty bottles for decades.
2) A devilishly cunning entrepreneur/marketing genius/imposter who also happens to be arguably the greatest nose of the last decades in charge of a small niche company thal lacks any heritage in the industry yet manages to consistently produce high quality, if overpriced releases including a genre-defining product every 5 years or so.
So what will it be, Creed haters?

Like, if I buy an expensive niche scent that cost me like 400.00, yeah, I’m gonna be pissed if I can’t smell it after 2 hours.

Also worth noting: a lot of people confuse having low projection with bad longevity. Just because ascent sits close to the skin after an hour or two doesn’t mean it has poor longevity. Not every scent is gonna fill the room.

You cannot honestly believe roses harvested in a backyard in Malaysia can be of a comparable aroma and quality to those grown in specialized orchards in Grasse, nor can you really believe that cheap roses can smell the same as Taif roses which are exclusive to a small region and therefore command a high price.

It's incredibly naive to imagine these large houses don't do everything they can to keep ingredient costs minimal, substituting everything they can with synthetics and sourcing inferior products.

Again, a cheap jasmine from Delhi does not smell the same as jasmine from Grasse. It's not just chemistry, it's the processing of living ingredients to their oils. You cannot synthesize a smell of Mysore Sandalwood from inferior Australian wood. It's impossible. As you say, it's chemistry, not magic. You have obviously no clue why noses go through so much trouble sourcing particular materials.

>Regardless of whether some spice is picked in California or Malaysia, it can be distilled into the same compounds or synthesized.
Wtf are you an idiot. They are spices, flowers, plants from different parts of the world of course they smell different. You can't just make them "into compounds" to make them smell the same with "chemistry" you dolt

Aqcua di Parma's Ginepro di Sardenga is probably the best I've found so far, that said not really seen many frags with juniper in. It's more summer than spring but I think it works for both desu.

I'm not a regular in these threads, nor do I regularly wear fragrance, but I use and enjoy pic related for dates and such. I also keep a bottle of cheap Tabac Original, which my grandfather wore. While it's incredible that you guys are able to dismantle all these complex scents into their base components, what really interests me about fragrance is the powerful instinctive link between scent and memory. I experiment with this link at home using specific incense and candles: can I to some extent "store" a feeling using scent? If I cause myself to associate a scent with a feeling, can I later evoke a reflection of that feeling by producing the same scent? It's fun to mess around with, and I'd love to read any thoughts you have on the matter. I'm sure there's plenty of peer-reviewed work on the topic as well.

In keeping with the above, I intend to limit myself to a select few fragrances throughout my life. I would like those to become associated with me in the adorable noses of my long-term companions. The Tabac - while it may be CVS-tier - is a comforting fragrance which has meaning to my family, and I can be reasonably confident that it will stay in production for quite some time. I'm not sure about the Tauer, though. What do you think the long-term prospects of a fragrance like L'air du Désert Marocain might be? As far as I can tell, the brand falls on the "niche" side of things, and at 13 years old it's barely a petulant high-schooler. Maybe somebody familiar with the industry can tell me whether a product like this is likely to stay around for the long haul.

Beaufort have generally disappointed on almost their whole range. I got samples of Vi Et Armis and Coeur De Noir and tried most of the other range in a specialist shop that sold their whole range and couldn't find anything even remotely likeable, yet alone wearable. I get that the whole range is highly conceptualised, but it's just a novelty range at best with no pleasant or bearable ones. They're generally all dark and heavy, but unpleasant scents, it feels like something better could have been done than what they ended up with.

It really is amazing what scents can do to our brains. I’m 35 and when I was a little kid, my mom always used to take me swimming at her health club. I can’t remember what the building looked like, or the pool, if it was big or small, what shape it was, I can’t remember the dressing rooms, or any of the other people there, but when I think about it, I can smell it clear as day. The pool water, that chlorinated tang, they used a particular detergent or something on their towels, and I can smell that too. It’s been like 30, I can barely remember any of it, but the smells come through clear as a bell.

Eau Sauvage - old meme, shared name with the above is basically a form of false advertising. I bought a 10mL version of Versace Eros today for $30 CAD at Sephora.

I like the scent. I tried out Gucci Guilty and YSL L'homme but they smelled too sweet to me.

I really regret buying from Sephora it's overpriced, should I return it and buy it from fragrancenet or fragrancex?
