Mars Core - Lets make this a real thing, people.

This thread is for posting inspiration and fits sharing color pallets, and discussing theory.

Your best bet is to not go public with it until you either (A) have multiple threads worth of inspo or (B) have several fits to show proof of concept.

I mean, that worked for me and others.

I think a good place to start might be figuring out what makes mars core different from just "lunarcore with red and brown shit."

A couple distinctions come to mind immediately.
First, there is the chronological difference. Lunar exploration is a thing of the past. A prior era. That makes lunarcore a retro-futurist movement, with all the accompanying aspects of nostalgia and historical context.
By contrast, mars has yet to be visited by humans. Therefore, while marscore should be influenced by historical space exploration, it is inherently science fiction and futuristic.

Second, we should consider the differences between Mars and the moon. Mars is much more massive, allowing it to retain an atmosphere. Mars is a dynamic world with active weather. In fact, Mars might even be capable of being terraformed. This could lead to much more sustainable colonies with greater self-sufficiency and independence from Earth.

ofc. I'm noticing one major diff in lunar and mars off the bat - you can swap out the retrofuturism and replace it with more contemporary futurism, as well as allow for appropriation of present day hunting/outdoor/special use gear that would break the lunarcore mold too much.

The slower, more atmospheric parts of this OST really fit what I'm seeing upstairs, mind's eye.

I think that part of what Mars might hold aesthetically is that it's not about space travel per se - it's a tangible place, unexplored and promising great discoveries to our species. We know space is a void, we don't yet know about the martian surface.

I'm by no means a final word on this, or even that knowledgeable, as it's unbroken ground in many ways... BUT - I think you don't need to change the ENTIRE palette of something to give its connotations a push in the mars direction. Pic Related is just lunar shit y'all seen b4 but I think it's headed in the direction this thread is getting at because of little details. Like the tan, the orange. Orange plays off green nicely, but full planetside? I'd maybe choose different pants, and aim to inject the whole fit with a dash of "expedition". If you dig.

Luke's fit over there could work great even if you only changed how you employ accessories or how you wear the uniform or outfit itself - I imagine a planetside expeditionary force would be styled in a more laid back fashion. You'd see accoutrements of exploration that wouldn't be needed to be 'always on hand' in the ready made environment of an orbital habitat.

TLDR - yeah, and you don't even need to swap palettes, just the manner in which you style the garments and accessorize.

What about taking light inspiration from the middle east, particularly things like Lawrence of Arabia? Obviously it'd be loose inspiration, but Mars evokes the idea of arid environments. I'm thinking loose-fitting, draping clothes that are breathable without allowing sand and dust into the fit while having colors that are meant to reflect sunlight (you could add a sci-fi element by having reflective/metallic-looking materials).

Well, you can find the real deal RLX on ebay AND rakuten, including some of the really interesting variations like the 2 pants I posted. RLX really popularized this color of cargo in the last 2-3 years, and I'd guess these are capitalizing on the renown they were enjoying. Lauren also had put out pocket spattered cargo shorts with a slight nautical vibe and a sweet orange cargo vest that fastened itself around your body with, like, huge metal carabiner-ish clips. DESU it sorta brought gaultier's stuff to mind, but in a waspishly expeditionary sorta way.

I found a GOLDMINE of their best discontinued shit, often NWT, on ebay. THESE are the real deal and when you have them in your hands the diff is undeniable.

>what makes mars core different from just "lunarcore with red and brown shit."
indeed, this is a distinction that needs to be addressed. Realistically speaking, Mars wear will need to be, first and foremost, all about function, not fashion. That's why all the past threads have been rehashed lunar shit, with muh color palette added. Clothing for Mars will need to be designed to protect the colonists from the harsh environment, and be part of an environmental protective suit/system. It prolly will consist of a base layer, like skiers would wear, followed by some sort of coverall for work inside what ever station/habitat they'll be living in. Then, a heavier protective suit for work outside in the natural environment. Colors will most likely be mil-spec, on government contract (at least in the early days) That means a color scheme that would stand out against the natural surroundings (for easy visibility in case search and rescue is needed) and not blend into the background, like the rust/brown/reddish orange palette that's been proposed in previous threads. It will be more practical than effay.

Hey guys, I've been working on something for the past few hours.

It's a grid of a simple outfit I drew, filled with a couple of colours. I limited it to 7 colours right now, but I'll expand it in a bit. I've got to study tomorrow, so it'll probably take a bit till the final version is ready. I might come back here to get some advice on colours to try. I'll also have to work on the process, since it is a lot of tedious filling right now. I'll probably work on opening up the lines, so I'll be able to fill every piece of clothing with a single click

I'm currently not planning on changing the style of the jacket, since this is mainly meant for myself as a way to decide what pieces of clothing to buy in what colors.

Ok, I feel like this should be way more obvious than it apparently is. Maybe people don't think about what they're actually doing when they use jackets and backpacks, or maybe this board just never goes /out/. Either way, I'll try to explain it through the following scenarios.

Let's suppose I'm walking around on a planet with varied terrain, and an atmosphere/weather. The weather and/or terrain changes and I find I am now too warm so I take off my jacket. It sure would be nice to be able to strap it onto my backpack and continue on my way. But wait, my pack it attacked to my jacket? Now I have to carry both of them together in my hands like a moron.

Now suppose I'm wearing my jacket/pack combo because its cold af, and I go to sit down in my truck/chair/ski lift/whatever, but there's a backpack in my way. Either I have to take off my jacket and be cold, or crouch forward to accommodate the pack.

Now I'm out walking in the rain. I'm getting hungry, but fortunately I have tasty snacks in my backpack. Too bad I have to take off my jacket and get my midlayer soaked in order to get at my delicious fruit rollups and protein bars.

Today I'm going to be doing something that requires extra gear that is too bulky to fit in my handy built-in backpack, like say a drone or some shit. I can put it in my larger pack, but then I have to deal with wearing it on top of this retarded built in pack all day.

And the list goes on. As much as I like the look and colors, I would much rather have a jacket and backpack that aren't attached.

The backpack on that thing does not look like it's meant to be stuffed full of shit you'll be needing constantly. I used to go /out/ fairly often, used to do fieldwork in fact (not so much anymore, unfortunately), and I can think of plenty of small knickknacks I could've stuffed in there - I second the guy who said a notebook, dry socks, to which I might add small toiletries for when you're showering or cleaning up before heading back to the campsite, canvas for making an improvised sun shelter ... all stuff I wished I had with me at various points when I didn't feel like bringing a whole pack along. I agree that 99% of the time it will be less practical than just bringing a fucking backpack but realistically you're not going to have your backpack with you all the time and there's something to be said for having extra storage space in your jacket, even if the way they did it here is fairly gimmicky.
