I'm looking for a fragrance that's quite woody, tree-like and masculine/musky.

I work in a suit shop during the daytime and in a bar during the night time. I'm 18, but I look like I'm in my early 20s. I'm looking for something that I can use as a daily driver/signature scent.

As someone who also works in a suit shop I'd recommend Prada L'homme 110%. Professional, clean, modern, inoffensive and isn't overpowering. you could also try reflection man which is more the type you described but is quite expensive. I don't think ch man prive like j suggested before, was confusing it with something else.

There was another post that had some good suggestions in the previous thread too

Replaced original with Extreme for this year's winter frag and IMO it's an upgrade, but wasn't what I expected. I thought it would go the direction of Sycomore and simply be a classier, more refined version of the original, but this one is something different - it's as if Lorson tried to recreate the original from scratch as an incense fragrance and not a vetiver one. It's unmistakably a flanker of EN, however the original notes now play a support role.
The result is something that wouldn't look odd in a CdG bottle, the original's harsh and uncompromising minimalism is gone and replaced with a smooth mixture of incense, resins and vetiver with a powdery background. Such a difference is great as it makes the original and sport still viable if you're going for a certain style/mood.

if you want something pricier, check out the scents from Commodity, under $100 for a gift set of an entire line or $105 for a bottle. my favs from them are Wool, Mimosa(female fragrance), and orris.

and of course there is CdG Man 2, which is always nice but it has really poor longevity.

With strong stuff I do one spray on back of neck. With average stuff I do 1 on each side of neck and 1 in back of neck. With light stuff I double that. It also depends if you're spraying from a full bottle or a smaller atomizer. A bottle sprays more so if I'm using a sample or something I figure 2-3 sprays equals one spray from the original bottle.

When you're ready to ditch the 9-5 and become a manly entrepreneur you only need to invest in 2 frags for the rest of your life: Eros and Invictus. I have figured out the best ratio for mixing them, which is 3:1. I have one of those 1 gallon insecticide sprayers from Home Depot, and I fill it 1/4 with Invictus and 3/4 with Eros. It’s actually not puke or shit. Basically sperm whales eat squid, but their digestive tracts can’t process the hard bits like the beaks, so they excrete a substance that covers the beaks, sort of like how oysters form pearls around irritants, so they can be passed safely. That substance is ambergris.

So, while it is passed through a whale’s asshole, it isn’t shit.

This. The biggest problem in the fragrance community is the way people absolutely love to parrot others' opinions. Mostly concerning reformulations and longevity. Yes, The One is not "beast mode" but I own the EDP and get a good 8 hour work day out of it. I know this because I put it on in the morning, go to work, then go to campus to do research with my colleague who hates The One and complains every time I wear it (even though it's been ~9 hours since I applied it). It's retarded to complain about performance if you really like the smell of something because you can get a pack of 50x3mL atomizers for like $10 that are no bigger than a chapstick. You want your scent with "poor longevity" to last longer? Apply it again at lunch time.

Seriously, I don't know how some of the faggots here get anything done with such terrible common sense.

It's excellent, there are hardly any other designers out there offering such a wide and interesting range in a comparable collection. There's a couple of flops (I regret buying Noir de Noir and haven't been won over by the summer/aquatic ones) but overall it's a solid collection and bridges mainstream and niche markets very well. The oud ones in particular are some of the best on the mainstream market. Performance and longevity are consistently outstanding across the whole range too which is a massive plus.

Can't say I liked TV much and was completely put off by the fruitiness of it but I might give it a second try next time I buy something from the TF counter in my local department store.

Bvlgari Aqva Amara sampler.

It's shit. I feel like I wasted £2.70 on it, reminds me of a 1990s bathroom air freshers and conjures up imagery of cheap plastic faux-seashell bath/basin designs from back then for some reason. I don't get how even as a flanker it can be so poor and off compared to the decent original.

So all season work the best for you. The point is that some fragrances are way too strong, sweet, spicy etc for the summer for example.

Try wearing spicebomb extreme in 30°. It's gonna be so strong and even spicier than usual because of the heat and sweat bringing it out more.

Now try wearing something like EZ Sicilian Mandarin in the winter. The cold air will kill the light citrus notes and fresh notes etc.

I live in a place that will get to as low as -25 in the winter and + 35 in the summer

I'm generally against blind buying, especially according to my own taste. L'Insoumis is Lalique showing the middle finger to other houses basically, with contemporary mainstream parfumery trends executed masterfully with a neoclassical twist. I suspect that it's a market failure unappraciated by brand loyalists and mainstream audiences alike that will nevertheless gain a cult following as the iconic 2010's male fragrance in a decade or so. If I were to invest in perfumes I'd pick this and Eau d'Italie as future classics. Now, for a relatively safe blind buy, I'd say Hommage a l'homme, elegant-versatile ashy neoclassical tobacco-violet scent for a well dressed, intelligent man 25 and up. Evocative, a bit melancholic and art hoes absolutely love it.

Autistic child detected. Reformulation is an essential discussion point for any fragrance that has been on the market for more than 5-10 years, especially when talking about "classics". Ask Kouros Guy about the several iterations of his namesake cologne and he can describe the differences between each version in precise detail. Yes, scents are regularly changed in the era of IFRA and corporate consolidation, and the changes are almost never for the better. Yes, this includes perfumes that are still top sellers today - Acqua di Gio, CK One, Fahrenheit. They may remain popular, but they were all better before they were reformulated and are now coasting on name recognition. To pretend that reformulation is no big deal and to dismiss it as superstition or bro science just shows your youth / inexperience.

Thanks for the lecture, sperg. I'm not saying that reformulation doesn't happen and result in differences to performance and, in rare cases, scent. However, you can't sit there and tell me that when somebody thinks a scent has changed and blames it on reformulation that it isn't bullshit 90% of the time. Just like anon said, sometimes the SAME BOTTLE can yield varying experiences. Interpreting performance is extremely subjective, and "reformulation" should definitely not be the first reaction when in reality there are tons of variables at play. To pretend that rating performance isn't qualitative at best and blaming every discrapancy on the reformulation boogieman just shows your youth / inexperience.

Where do you find these knee jerk reformulation allegations that are so prevalent? I don't usually find them in this thread or on Basenotes or even Fragrantica. Sounds like you're the one sperging out about a problem that doesn't exist.

Senpai, the exact places you described are exactly where I see it, in addition to Youtube reviews & comments. Just look at Eros' Fragrantica page and CTRL+F "reformulation" and you'll see all kinds of people bitching about it. I don't think I've ever heard anyone on here complain about Eros being anything other than what it's always been, and I've had bottles from several different years with no discernible difference in smell/performance that couldn't be attributed to environmental variables. But when a couple people start with the reformulation crap it's like a positive feedback mechanism and becomes a huge circlejerk of ignorance.

I'm using YSL L'Homme Intense but I find that it mostly works for couples dates, warm interior settings during winter and is sometimes too sweet. I took a look at YSL Eau Electrique and Hugo Boss Man and really liked the freshness, masculine and wake uppy smell. Any recommendations based on those?

It makes sense if you think about it, Its not a fragrance he recommends for dating because its not an intimate, sexy fragrance for bedroom behavior, its just a comfy, inviting fragrance that won't put off the other couples or make them think you're trying to swing.

couples dates actually make sense, i.e. common social romantic occasions among people who are already in a relationship as opposed to people socializing with the outlook of a potential future romantic relationship. l'homme intense's homely warmness might fit into the first case well, while it doesn't really serve the aim of raising a hopeful future romantic partner's attention in the second case.

This was everything I wanted it to be. Seductive but not fuccboish at all.

I wouldn't wear it anywhere faggots hang out, though, because the ambroxan note would trigger their instincts as surely as citing the child abuse statistics they don't like. Hi, after much research, I want to choose between pic related for an all-purpose frag (office, dates). I want the ladies to like it a lot: legends say that certain smells are very attractive to them, like almost sexually.
MiB is more dark, mysterious and sweet amber-like, while DB is more ambergris/ambroxan (or one of the surrogates: it feels a bit like Sauvage but much better), fresh and dynamic. Both have a sweet undertone that I like very much. In theory ambroxan notes should attract girls, but the girls I asked about DB didn't love it as much as expected, but just like a good perfume. I think that the old barber shop reminesces them of a grandpa. What do I choose?
