Dang we are a bit behind. Berlin FW was 16 -19th. Paris men's was 17th-21st.

Personally, I like to see ea city separately bc its interesting to see the differences. But its totally up to you guys; we could just have a general "2018 FW street wear thread" ??
Pls respond and contribute.
I will post Berlin 'till you guys suggest/request otherwise.

Thx in advance.

I am well aware you're not into FW street fashion, but I think it is cool to look at. Although I admit Berlin is the weakest city I have browsed this season, it is still interesting to look at what people are wearing around the world.

If you don't like it, obv you can leave the thread...but I would like to ask you (kindly) to contribute what you think IS "real style".

idk maybe its just me, but one of my favorite things to see during fashion week is street style. most likely bc regular people can't afford runway looks on the daily. this is wearable fashion. even if you COULD afford whatever you wanted, you still wouldnt deck yourself out in full on runway fits (ofc there are exceptions to this).

Real style is when people arent dressing in hopes to get their outfit photographed

This is just poser shit and it always the same shit all the time:
Le anti fit meme
Le wacky fit that you wouldn’t wear any other day meme
Le pop of color in a dark fit meme
Le mixing colorful pattern meme
Le wear the latest hype shit meme

Fucking hell. And you can almost guarantee there are photos of someone wearing two jackets. That’s like the easy way to get your photo taken. Wear a long coat and a shoter coat underneath

sorry you feel this way. even so though, you can't appreciate fashion for the sake of fashion? even if they're trying hard, look at the cultural/ societal trends, like I said its cool to see different cities and how their styles vary.
idk I just think you're being too harsh and closed minded. I wouldn't necessarily wear all those outfits, but it is nice to see different people trying different things.

No way would dad shoes be popular or considered cool if not "posers".
Imagine the first guy to wear slim fit suits when baggy was the norm, maybe he was just being a "meme" and contrarian like what you described, however u cant deny the change that the first autist brought on.

I think these threads are just getting to be too much for me, especially from a place like Berlin. They're slowly going from inspirational threads showing me something to strive for to just being a reminder that I'll probably always be too poor to afford anything I really want and always be stuck in the anus of the midwest where the selection of clothes is limited to target and mall garbage except the mall garbage is even more limited than it would be in a real fucking city with actual value. Just another reminder that I'll never get to go back to Germany or Austria and I'll never be able to afford things that really fit me or that I really enjoy the aesthetic of.

I've been to thrift stores a lot, too; I couldn't afford anything else for quite some time. Hell, most of the thrift stores in the city that actually have standards as to what they will take from people don't even pretend to give a shit about men's clothes and will either have a single rack in the entire store or will just straight up not sell men's clothes.

I think people on this board forget that we are human and we like to have fun, and that we can be stupid.

Some people go out and want to dress in a way that is unconventional because it either forces other people to look at them and take in a different way of presenting yourself, others like to do it because collecting and displaying fashion is a passion, and then there are people that simply want to be a spectacle.

The beauty of fashion is it is an art that is seen by others on the everyday. Sure, these people during fashion week were photographed heavily on the promise they would be on some shit fashion blog, but it's the little moments of someone looking at them on the 2pm metro to wherever that sticks.

You're on point. I think I just realized WHY all the bitchin and moanin: They don't undertand the idea of dressing however the fuck you want/however it pleases you (having fun), bc it takes a lil confidence and balls to wear some shit like this. This is street style not streetwear.

The terms are stupid but have been in place for a long time now. Street style is typically what you'll see in major cities around the world in their fashion, art and shopping districts, or wherever there's a major fashion show, it includes streetwear (clothes based on skate boarding and hip-hop culture).

hmm...its def very affordale. If it has somewhat descent quality, the "essential" sect has some wearable shit. The more stylized items look p bad quality wise (so it would be almost impossible to pull off).
I guess it comes down to what your style is, bc in general they have the punk/grundge thing going on, so if thats what youre into and you can pull it off without looking rediculous, then it can work for you.

But overall I'd say its a total hit or miss. Like in pic rel, I kinda like the shirt for some reason, but the pants are def out of question (unless you are a rockstar), there are some less stylized garments that look much better.

Have you owned any of it? How is the quality/price?

Yes, but I'd argue it was a larger social issue, where we value individualism and personal expression over the integrity of the artistic medium. And what's more, we value it at the detriment of social mores-- which is to say, the variation in fashion actually represents a larger fracturing of our society. Just because people do give in to their base desires to be "out there" and "have fun" hardly justifies bad, and worse immoral outfits. But i'm talking more about people who wear shit on the daily and not just for "occasions". I hate self-expression when it is to the detriment of larger society.

Although "tall" or "short" is rooted in empirical relativiness, "manlet" is of course about ideals! The whole notion of "manlet" is to split "us" against "them", to create groupings where some ideally are manlets and some are not. It's a meme that means under 6 ft and this is a fact. The internet is a reflection of the anglosphere, since everyone on the internet that you frequent I'm assuming speaks English, or it's Western at least.

So is it the internet that's fracturing societies, or is it already fractured societies (since the internet is a relatively recent invention) just fracturing more expeditiously now thanks to technology? And how large do these purely internet subcultures grow, in terms of clothing? Not very, I would imagine.

The average German prefers humility at all levels. That's why you'll often hear Germans whine about how they don't have money, yet they own a big house with 2 Audis parked in front of it. Just like our pensioners whine about not getting enough pension, yet you'll see them everywhere in restaurants and cafés on Sundays, or travelling from city to city by train in 1st class seats, or straight up flying to some beach resort all over the Mediterranean.

That's why I've had to learn to never tell where I buy my stuff from - people would start to hate me real quick or deem me shallow and arrogant simply because of my love for certain clothes. That's why Germans refer to themselves as "Neidgesellschaft" - "envy society".

>So is it the internet that's fracturing societies, or is it already fractured societies just fracturing more
it's neither, why are you making this about 'fracturing' purely on societal level
I wasn't a making point towards internet fracturing society, I was talking about the internet culture becoming a every day thing which where that 'everything goes' attitude comes from
you'd have point if fracturing of society was recent thing or somehow highly relevant today but it's just internet being this weirdly new thing people are still kinda getting used to being so huge part of our daily lives but struggling to really wrap their heads around
like I said, shock edginess and standing out are big things on social media, the rise of streetwear labels can be linked to that, it's noticeable and has clear aesthetic on instagram, details and more subtly things simply don't work on that environment
now look at the offerings of streetwear labels that made bank on that for the last 5 years offerings at FWs, they are actually moving away from that kinda aesthetic, not just because fucking every faggot is starting their own brand and it's getting stale but because internet and social media is starting to evolve beyond just that shock, wow factor and edginess
calling it on 'fractured societies' is such a easy call, might as well say it's about what 'highly political times' we live, like political tension hasn't excited before, people have been concerned about fracturing societies for god knows how long but such luck that you happened to live in the exact year where fashion decided to take a stance and you even noticed and called it out or maybe you just want to see it here for reasons I can only specualte

and the 'everything goes' attitude has been relevant since 80s, that's basically where lot fashion let go of the "rules" and started to explore more more conceptual things, anti-fashion labels became relevant, female/male power structures started to chance, feminine elements in male fashion suddenly were thing everywhere and vice-versa and all that legacy dictates to this day very much what people wear

but if you truly feel that's the case here, fractured society, then please paint me a picture how this kinda fashion will evolve in the future, should be easy if it's such a simple and obvious correlation between the two

And again that "everything goes" attitude has existed before the internet. That it reinforces the bad behaviour and expedites it is not from the medium still coming into its own. I'm no expert on the birth of new mediums and their evolution, so that may have a part to play in this, but I see it more as reflecting larger trends. Imagine if, if you can, we lived in a society that didn't respect "shock, wow and edginess" would then those things be what the internet reinforced? Probably not, but rather the mores of the society. Those three transgressions would still exist but would be minor compared to the majority who would prefer the things reflecting the values of their society.

Fracturing society is more relevant today than previously, just as today is more politically polarizing, unless you're going to claim these issues were less relevant a decade ago? Remember then, when you could still make a racist joke in the media without being mercilessly rallied upon? Now, going further back in history of course there were other polarizing times, but shame I don't live then but in the here and now.

You're claiming all times are equally impotent. If society wasn't so fractured there wouldn't be so many subcultures &etc. No goths, no gangsters, no fedorafags, all of who not only dress differently but also who have discordant values and cultures/communities from each other and larger society.

So you want to say where this is heading? To more fracturing obviously-- more subcultures, and I don't mean internet subcultures that pop up like STIs and spread like them (but you will have more as "larger" society continues to alienate more and more people)-- I mean honest to god irl subcultures, weirdos who dress different and form their own communities with values different from larger society. If you want particular styles-- more cholo style, more nigger-core shit, you'll see Lolita and other cosmopolitan shit not just on runways but in irl communities.

>> No.13098242

>>13098221
And taking it far to the logical extremes, these communities would naturally segregate and you'd have a society balkanized along cultural lines almost as surely as you'd have one along racial lines.

This is all predicated on fashion being not fashion-- that is to say not a trend you wear and then throw away, moving on to the next in a disgusting consumerist ritual, but how people genuinely see themselves and choose to integrate into larger society via their style.

That we consume styles via fashion is itself an indictment on our society and it's values of consumerism and it's inherent lack of identity. People need an identity, and if larger society does not provide they will find one-- even if what they find alienates larger society, which is no good.

>> No.13098256

>we lived in a society that didn't respect "shock, wow and edginess" would then those things be what the internet reinforced
But that comes from internet and how it works and behaves
>Fracturing society is more relevant today than previously
Then maybe spit up some evidence supporting the claim
>You're claiming all times are equally impotent
No, what I'm saying is your assumption that fashion being in the breaking state it is right now is reflection of 'fractured society' and that being somehow the most glaring part of our culture today is simply wrong.
> there wouldn't be so many subculture
There is less subcultures today than previously, new subcultures don't really exist the same way they did before internet, these days everything gets dragged to the mainstream and appropriated fast because it's the nature of internet and information due to the technology, that's really bad point to argue from.
>To more fracturing obviously
Could have guessed that one, but my point was that if it's as easy as drawing a line from 'culture is fracturing' to 'everything goes' to fashion, then what does that mean for the future of fashion. And trust me, I don't care about your answer cause you are just wrong here, I just want you to actually speculate just so you will at least later on learn something when you realize how wrong you were.
And culture might be fracturing, but your logic to making this kinda huge issue in fashion with such straight correlation and thinking it has this huge cultural weight and meaning right now is just silly.

I mean you are free to believe what you want but you'd think fashion designers would address this issue and tackle it more directly if it was actually this huge culture influencing power and so detrimental to our futures, that's kinda their job after all, they need to be wired to understand and sense new trends and the future, where our culture is going and how it will shape up later on. But you can't see the kinda thematic you and the other guy are talking bout in any form during fashion weeks, why is that?
And again, this just shows how arrogant you are, you have nothing to show to back up your point but essentially you are claiming you know better than all these designers, you are better at predicting future trends and reading culture than these hundreds of people that showcased their visions of the future during fashion weeks.
Because why? What are your credentials? realizing 10 posts earlier this massive culture dominating trend because some another anonymous poster made 3 sentence post about it and you have adopted a name and tpe lke a rtard while dumping pics on /fa/?

Berlin FW is way smaller than New York etc. And it's not much of an event here. You need to explore the club scene to find interesting style in Belrin

idk if this look has a name but its on par with the PLAID trend, and ofc overcoat trend. There's a whole working girl look going on these days; ie all the business wear like 2 piece suits we've been seeing (in both mens and women's)

There is a few good fits here, but I enjoyed Milans style a lot more. Milan has a lot more simple color blocking, or they're just plain better at mixing contrasting patterns, plaids and tartans without overdoing it.

There is a few too many outfits in this collection that tries to be next level but ends up just looking silly.

You might be right but nobody wants to engage with you because you come off like a massive raging cunt. Chill the fuck out a little.

Fashion designers aren't fucking wizards who can see the future-- most of them can barely see past their own navels. Their jobs are to make clothes to the best of their ability, and then their audience votes with their wallets. Let's not attach any undue value to their opinions on society and culture.

>Fashion designers aren't fucking wizards who can see the future
Never claimed such thing, however it's very much in their job description to be able to understand and translate culture and future trends in to their work.
Anonymous shitposters on 4chan are certainly even less of a future wizards in that sense.
> Let's not attach any undue value to their opinions on society and culture.
Culture does not exist in vacuum, the people creating it are the ones shaping it's future the most and in that regard, fashion designers are the grand fucking wizards of culture in the future. It's not about their opinions, it's about their work.

See, if you bothered to properly read my post, I actually didn't exclude anyone by saying that designers are part of that wizard club.
I actually said, and I quote myself
> the people creating it are the ones shaping it's future
Which very much includes just those people. I hate to be the raging cunt "no one wants to engage with" but you faggots aren't making it exactly easy to be anything else when the discourse is like this.
>let's not attach any undue value to designers on society and culture
>undue
See, again, I don't think I did that. Where does new culture come from I wonder? People consuming, taking in and appreciating the work of those engaging in to the creating of that very culture in this moment and in the past.
What do you know, saying the culture creators of today are the influencers and shapers of the future doesn't seem very
>undue
at all, makes you think huh
