this whole thread is awful, but, to answer your question, what you're seeing is photos, so you have to think that posing happy for fashion photography looks forced a lot of the time, and might distract from the piece(s). People on /fa/ will shitpost and tell you otherwise, but dressing in all black or dark colors doesn't mean you don't know how to have fun or enjoy life to a certain degree.
There's probably some credence to the fact that when you're sad you find things to distract you, and a lot of people get into fashion that way (i did), but i don't think you have to be a depresso who can't laugh to be into fashion, I think they're unrelated.
(every now and then a /comfycore/ thread will show up, look at those and they generally have happier people and colors, and imo still looks great
