I've narrowed down some colognes I like. Help me pick my signature scent!

>Issey Majeure
This is probably the one I like on smell alone. It's very unique and smells very elemental. It has the same "personality" as Terre Hermes. I'm not sure about wearing it because it smells completely asexual. It's the kind of smell you want your bedroom to have but not yourself I think.

>Acqua Di Gio
I'm a 90s kid so I'm very nostalgic for this one. Nothing much to say except that it's good, masculine and fresh. I don't think people where it as much so that wouldn't discourage me.

>Sauvage
Also is up there on scent alone. Definitely a next gen fragrance. You smell nice and a bit dangerous. I like it because it has some edginess instead of smelling like a floral french boy. I don't like the $99 price.

>Gucci Guilty
Incredibly mainstream and boring but that's actually a good point. I don't think people will have anything bad to say about it. It's the kind of scent you wear when you go out and rock the town with your squad. Feels like a more juvenile Sauvage.

So what do you think would be a good signature scent? Can you recommend something with the same personality I'm looking for?

I haven't tried PVIN or Beyond Noir but I'll get there eventually. X Batch seemed like the more intriguing purchase because of its modified note list. What is it meant to be? So I just went into my local Sephora today and picked up 3 sample scents that I liked a lot. They were polo black, Versace Eros, and Paco Rabanne 1 Million. So far, I'm liking Paco 1 Million but I hear that a lot of people find it douch-y and tacky, so I'm slightly turned off by that. These are my 3 favorites that I found there, but I would really appreciate any suggestions

imo bleu EdP is the overall better scent. It has a lot of character start to finish on my skin, and I love the vetiver, amber, woody drydown. Frankly I can't think of anything that quite tickles my fancy as much as bleu does in a similar vain, so I never understood the generic comments. (I think people confuse generic with overused) The downsides of it though are that everybody is wearing it, and projection/longevity isn't great. I don't see it as a clubbing fragrance though, but that's just me.

Sauvage has its own merits though. The longevity on this shit is fucking ridiculous. To me, it reminds me of Bleu if it took a peppery ambroxan approach instead of the woody citrus approach. I actually quite like it, but it's currently what EVERYBODY is wearing. It's not as safe as a daily driver as Bleu is, but as long as you keep sprays minimal i think it's fine. Some people get a really bad synthetic note, but honestly to me it just is fresh spicy from start to finish, with a little bit of that ambroxan so I guess I'm lucky?

But yeah I think bleu edp is always the better choice. I've liked it for years though so I'm definitely biased.

I love Sauvage but, as you say, fucking everyone wears it. It's the new 1 million and I need something else. Just haven't smelled anything else that I think suits me, people seem to compare it to BdC but I guess that's just the "versatile popular masculine scent" thing rather than having the same character.

At the end of the day do what you want. But it's not really a suitable casual fragrance which makes it hard to find a place to live.

It project like fucking mad, meaning you don't really wanna wear it to work or to just hang out unless you wanna be "cologne guy." So that's why it is considered a clubbing fragrance.

Now, when it comes to something like Bleu, sauvage, aventus, la nuit, or other memes, while they may reach critical overuse levels, they really don't project like 1 million does, so they are often worn outside of clubs too. In a similar vein, they aren't always the choice at clubs because projection is "so-so" unless you douse yourself, so they aren't nearly as tainted. (Sauvage is on its way though.) And that's why 1 million is a bad fragrance - it's overused in the only area it can shine in.

ALRIGHT ENOUGH SHITPOSTING ABOUT MEMES

POST YOUR SCENT OF THE DAY AND GIVE A QUICK REVIEW ABOUT IT

Guerlain L'Homme Ideal EdT

Decided to wear my sample of this today and it's a pretty all around solid scent, if not a bit boring. It's a smooth, sweet Gourmand all the way through, although it has this sharp citrus opening that is to die for. After the opening gets out of the way (no more than an hour for me) it dries down to a nutty woody sweetness. Projects I feel like for 2-3 hours before drying down on to my skin, but i still am catching wiffs of it and it's really nice. I think L'Instant does a better job but this is definitely worth checking out.

In my personal opinion it isn't worth it since Dolce and Gabbana the one does something very similar for much cheaper but if you MUST have the best Oud wood-dominant frag then it is better than the one even if a little straightforward

Avoid the aqua ones in my opinion, they also aren't actually much better at all than other fresh frags and have pretty poor performance despite a few nice smells

Oud fluer is a gorgeous floral scent

Tobacco Vanille is amazing if you don't mind a powdery fragrance

Oud minerale is super niche but I liked it a lot personally

Everything else private collection didn't really stand out to me (or I find it too subjective) but that could be different for you,

Outside of private collection, Tom Ford Noir Extreme is the only one I like although Black Orchid is quite nice too if you think you would suit it (even though it's a woman's frag).

Depends where you're buying it from but if it isn't a private seller type of guy (some guy selling a present) and it's too good to be true then it probably is. This is one of the things I've gone by for eBay buying and it's served me well thus far

Is spice bomb extreme the same thing as the edt but stronger? Cant find the edp version in stores but i really love the idea of a stronger spice bomb since I have too many damn EDT to justify another

I blind bought Marrakesch Intense, it's ok. Safe and natural-smelling, not too generic. I've heard good things about Hwyl, but it's not available anywhere except Aesop stores. It's one to keep tabs on if you're into forest-y scents.

>Fahrenheit

Is it still cool to wear or is it fedora-tier??? I get a lot of compliments on it but its way too swanky and inappropriate for the work setting and I feel like other guys look at me weird when I wear it....

>> No.13021027

>>13020892
to be fair, you have to have a very high IQ to understand Dior Fahrenheit. The scent is extremely avant-garde, and without a solid grasp of theoretical perfumery, most of the notes will go over a typical wearer's head.

I think Fahrenheit is fine because Dior sells it today. It was popular, it is mainstream until today. But Fahrenheit is also known as "polarizing" at the same time. I don't know the exact meaning but it's called as such.

So if you think it could be regarded as unprofessional in work setting then don't wear it in work settings.

Can you guys give me some resources where I can find a "translation" from fragrance note to given effect and/or vice-versa?

I mean, I know from the OP that some family of notes are more mysterious, masculine, feminine, etc., but I'd like to have more distilled (pun intended) information about notes in term of popularity, attraction to females, which are more boyish and which are more sophisticated, or oldish, what synergizes best with a preppy style or a sporty style or a more elegant wardrobe/event, etc.

I'm trying different perfumes in order to find 1-2 signature scents, but I'm quite attracted to female perfumes so I'm not objective, I need some directory to understand how women (but also, less importantly, men, since I work) would perceive me with said notes or family or notes, or which is more popular, etc.
