the company has some good scents I guess if you can order their stuff from japan

their official american versions suck though

I like Revolution for Girl's Utena and FLCL, and some of their more experimental stuff is pretty good until the top notes wear off. Too much shilling, repetition, playing the numbers game hoping to accidentally blend a hit fragrance, and catering to devote customers who've never used fragrance from another company and have shit taste though.

People say the American and Swedish knockoffs are "just like the real thing" but they're so much more like other American and Swedish smells that really how the fuck does anyone think they are smell-alikes. Avatar is good though if you can get the discontinued original version and not the shitty live-action remake.

It projects for about two hours and dries down to a skin scent that lasts until you scrub it off.

Same with the Extrême. Only difference is the extra notes during the two hour projection. Dry-down/skin scent is still the same ol' vetiver that sticks to you until your next shower. Rumor has it this one has no iso e super since it's an EdP.

That's why this line is only $30 on the gray market.

But for something relatively affordable,
Chypre Palatin is the most dense, dark undergrowth of oakmoss you'd hardly believe it was possible in this day and age. Although they reformulated last year, I'm sure you can find one of the dark red juice anywhere online.

Current mitsuoko is honestly not too bad, especially after the last reformulation- although surely no real oakmoss is in there, it's still a golden standard and an amazing likeness to the real ingredient.

Different anon but its probably worth sampling the pre-reform HL, tested a lucky scent sample (which im guessing is the 2016/2017 batch that is the reform) against mine and the oak moss isn't as prominent, everything overall feels toned down, even the methyl ionones.

Still wearing out Irisoir and VN, which kicks HL's ass (both pre and post reform) in terms of using actual orris, one of them even has a tiny tiny tiny amount of violet flower absolute which hasn't been in the commercial world for around 100 years. Looks like ol' Roger doesn't have all the connections in the world of perfumery, or more likely is making sure profits are to the brim with his cohort Dominic Venton.

Going on smell, proper carnation absolute has been used rather than just a mix of eugenols, I'd say that it matches what people describe vintage L'heure Bleue as, something more than a perfume, not just a diffusive something or other. Maybe the fact that its an undiluted oil just adds to the rich textured effect.

I still feel for the influencers (im guessing some of them are shilling and want to believe the hype and feel special but whatever idk) but I guess if people want to feel special even if they are paying for a little deception then who am I to judge.

I have Arabie and Un Bois Vanille, personally, and they’re both very nice, very high quality scents. They’re not something I’m in the mood for all the time, but they’re great comfort scents.

I’d say Serge Lutens is a pretty consistently solid house overall, but you have to like the sorts of fragrances they produce. If you’re more into aquatic freshies, clean woody scents, or fruity scents, it may not be the house for you.

Heritage EdT and Vetiver are wearable year round in my experience.

I would say Habit Rouge EdP as well because of the citrus opening. Its famous dry-down doesn't project far enough to cause any headaches in the heat.

Now that I think about it, their classic masculine frags aren't known for being projection beasts.

It's just there's something odd about that sandalwood note in Heritage EdP that makes it a bit inappropriate in the heat.

I'd consider buying maybe the 1 I like again for maybe like <30eu but not much more (I only wear this one at home desu) but they're going for 30-40eu now. However from none of them I'd buy the original for even for half the price, so it's not like the armafs are shitty it's just I wouldn't buy the scent anyways.

I think they are worth it as standalone scents but not as replacement of the original. If you really love the original, get the original. If you just want some cheap scent you can spray on whenever I think armafs are pretty good value for the price. Problem is when you get load of cheap scents the price adds up and you could have bought an expensive one you do really like instead of 5 cheap ones that are decent. Yeah the 6 bottles are 500ml cheap vs 100ml expensive but I'm not using up that 600 ml before I buy even more bottles.

The Arab miasma is typically the result of overspraying of strong, common perfumes (Bleu, One Million, Aventus and clones) mixed with lingering body odor. Like they don't shower properly and don't use deodorant, then think that their fragrance will make up for it. I don't mind heavy application of scent, but it's the lack of hygiene part that grosses me out.

Thanks for telling me what it means, I hate racist stereotypes but at least I'm in the loop now. I hear that word thrown around a lot in here and I'm always confused, cause it sounds like if I said I don't want to smell like an African or an Asian??

anyways since you filled me in on a prejudice, I'll fill you in on a word in arabic that if you hear you'll know what it means around you.
"Abyaad netten" means white stink, often used to describe this wet dog like smell most middle class white people project. I think it's white people who let their dogs sleep in their beds and go nose blind to the smell, lingering body odour plus smelling like a dog is known as "Abyaad netted".

you're welcome, if you'd like I can teach you simple arabic comeback to that.

Blind bought a tester bottle of this recently. Dry, fuzzy, salty citrus wood. It's L'Eau d'Issey torn down to its core and reconstructed using modern scent molecules - cashmeran, Iso E, and whatever mineral ocean note is used in AdG Profumo. A good choice of aquatic for those who love gaudy ambroxan bombs like Sauvage (I really enjoy Sauvage). Whether sometime enjoys it probably hinges on how they react to the cashmeran, which is uncommon in men's fragrance (L'Eau Majeure is intended as a unisex scent). I have a bottle of the EDP and multiple testers of the EDT.

The blackcurrant note shows through more in the EDT and it just feels more fruity in general. The development of the fragrance feels pretty generic. Fruity/citrusy opening with slightly vanillic and sweet base. It's nice, though.

I prefer the EDP. It's one of the few fragrances where a lighter note (lemon) actually overtakes the heavier note (vanilla), on my skin. I think the notres compliment each other really well.

That's why I prefer the EDP. There is, however, a slightly 'metallic' overtone because of the citrus that pervails throughout its entirety.

Longevity is fine for both the EDT and EDP. EDP does last longer, of course..

Ionones also cause olfactory fatigue, they are kinda like cousins with iso e, its how it was discovered decades ago. I'd say look on base notes to see if someone mentions strong doses of iso e (sometimes they confuse it for other synths like norlimbanol even though they don't smell the same).

As for ionones, look where "Alpha-iso-methyl ionone" is on the ingredients list of the box, its a restricted material but the amount in a perfume is usually dictated about where on the list it is (near the beginning a higher concentration, lower on the list a lower concentration), although they might have changed that rule to just being alphabetical.

Hello again almost-me. Here's my most recent week according to BN. Most of these are fresh blind buys. I find One Million Absolutely Gold to be very much in the family of 24 Gold / Gold Oud. Mancera Gold Intensive Aoud should also appeal to you if you think you'd like a dry rose / geranium and assorted woods with your "(a)oud". Since you like sweet stuff, sample Dunhill Icon (Terre de Skittles). No suggestions for Aventus-likes; you're already doing that right.

I'm likely going to buy Mancera Back to Black and Black Line when Notino run their post Christmas sale on "niche" brands again. Also interested in Charriol Royal Gold, which is reviewed as a sort of Black Orchid Intense that can be had for $35 on fragnet.

I said fuck it and bought it, really liked the sample I had of it. I'll just call it a Christmas gift to myself.

Exactly, why not? I’m thinking I’m gonna grab myself a bottle of Eau my Soul as a Christmas gift to myself, because why the fuck not, right? Gotta treat yourself sometimes.

Personally, I like Bergamust a lot. I have both Amongst Waves and Bergamust. I didn’t love it when I first sampled it, but it grew on me. Kinda reminds me a little of Sauvage, but much smoother and less woody and peppery. If you still have a sample, give it a couple more wears, it’s really become one of my go-to casual scents.

Honestly both of you anons can spare yourselves a lot of neurotic worry by going with Pineapple Vintage Intense. I've narrowed down some colognes I like. Help me pick my signature scent!

>Issey Majeure
This is probably the one I like on smell alone. It's very unique and smells very elemental. It has the same "personality" as Terre Hermes. I'm not sure about wearing it because it smells completely asexual. It's the kind of smell you want your bedroom to have but not yourself I think.

>Acqua Di Gio
I'm a 90s kid so I'm very nostalgic for this one. Nothing much to say except that it's good, masculine and fresh. I don't think people where it as much so that wouldn't discourage me.

>Sauvage
Also is up there on scent alone. Definitely a next gen fragrance. You smell nice and a bit dangerous. I like it because it has some edginess instead of smelling like a floral french boy. I don't like the $99 price.

>Gucci Guilty
Incredibly mainstream and boring but that's actually a good point. I don't think people will have anything bad to say about it. It's the kind of scent you wear when you go out and rock the town with your squad. Feels like a more juvenile Sauvage.

So what do you think would be a good signature scent? Can you recommend something with the same personality I'm looking for?
