So, I love small dress mechanical watches but the ones I truly love seem to all be upwards of 5kUSD and as much as I like watches I just can't justify paying that much instead of a dirtbike or a vacation or a bunch of concert tickets or sofas.

So I saw an eBay auction for a poo-in-loo Favre Leuba that had its dial messed with, the winding stem is slightly crooked, some of the detailing is shittily off but in some miraculous fashion it works, keeps time ok and it looks pretty good on a black leather strap - all for $37. Wouldn't recommend, but not disappointed. Thanks for reading my blog.

Hamilton are just about the best bang for buck you're going to get in that price range. Pilot pioneer auto chrono is the top end, or look at Khaki Field Auto or Jazzmaster.

The H10 is a modified ETA 2824-2. The H10 modifications significantly improve the accuracy (my Khaki is within +/- 3s a day), and the power reserve has doubled from 40 hours to 80 hours. Sounds impressive, right? Chronograph accuracy (even though it's not officially certified) with an obscenely long power reserve. So what's the downside?

Well, the H10 movement is impossible to repair/maintain. The ETA 2824-2 can be repaired/regulated by literally anyone. The H10 can't. The H10 uses plastic parts in many places (no idea why). Furthermore, none of the H-series movements can be regulated. All of the H-series (and the PowerMatic movements) are regulated by Swatch at the factory with a laser. After that you can never change it.

If you can't regulate it, you can't ever repair it, because you can disassemble it and lubricate the parts at the very least (if you do you could never reassemble it).

Wearing one rn. Had it for about 4 months and wear it daily. It's nice enough to catch a bit of eye but not distracting. Really good build and easy to wear. Only downside is if you catch it on something hard it'll chip the gold around the face. I wouldn't recommend it if you work with your hands often.

Was quite lucky that the last owner of the watch found an original Spiedel USA, so it came with the watch. There are some Chinese copies on eBay that looks nearly identical, only difference is that it say Speidel on the back and China on the ends. But of course if you wanna go full show accurate I think you can still order the band at Speidel's website.
