I'm 5'8 and really stocky. I'd hardly call myself fashionable but basically you just need to find brands or cuts of clothes that fit you best. It's trial and error to some extent. If you can afford it, try going to a decent-ish store and actually asking the people who work there for help. I've always had good experiences at Nordstrom, they tend to have excellent staff. Also a tailor will help a lot with formal clothes and that sort of thing.

I tend to avoid stuff that emphasizes my shortness: cuffed pants, horizontal stripes, low waisted or baggy pants, etc. I avoid untucking button down shirts if they have a long hem, and I don't wear short sleeved button down shirts because they make your arms look shorter. Also monochromatic or similarly hued outfits will give you a sleeker profile, as opposed to strongly contrasting ones which break up the various parts of your body into sections.
