This is a word of advice coming from a native: don't. Seattle has become a real shitty place, in no small part because of people moving up here to the constant chagrin of locals, but the population boom has also put lots of people out on the street. Seattle is fourth in homelessness per capita behind NY, LA, and Las Vegas - so you'll be dealing with lots of that. I got slugged by a homeless woman a few months ago outside of the The Jungle (the massive former homeless city under I:5) as she tried to rip a cigarette out of my hand while I was sitting in the passenger seat of a moving car. It's very expensive now, and traffic is awful because there isn't robust enough rail transit around the city like BART or MTA, because voter proposals have shot it down consistently since fucking 1919. Additionally, the absence of decent roads and high volume of new arrivals with cars has further complicated all of this, because there's now traffic jams in all parts of the city at pretty much all times of day. The east-west axis is broken, because the city is built on a thin landbridge, so getting from the Sound to Lake Washington can take up to two hours, and is a total distance of between five or ten miles depending where you are in the city. This is all in additional to a heavily id-pol oriented social scene in terms of arts, music, whatever, so if you're not a fan of that, you're going to especially hate this place. You're better off heading to Portland, or going upstate to Bellingham if you wanna be in a collegiate atmosphere in the PNW.

depends on what you want. In general, all Texas cities are exploding in population with all of the problems and benefits that entails.

Austin is full of commies and californians and is totally different from what it was even 10 years ago, traffic blows and its getting very expensive. People are jerks. Obviously great arts scene but its all transplants and appropriation, no home grown culture. great if you want the california vibe, for better or worse.

DFW is endless sprawl (like literally 100 miles of it) although ft worth has some nice areas if you're into the old timey western feel but those are fading fast. Lots of money but people are dumb about it and blow it on low quality consumerist crap. Decent arts scene.

Houston has a very cosmopolitan international feel that is unique between the coasts. Lots of high end fashion in river oaks/ galleria. Weather sucks and traffic is bad. Huge arts scene. Prob the most effay big city in TX

San antone is full of mexicans but pretty nice if you're into that. Traffic sucks. People are more down to earth than other tx cities but it has it's hip areas like the pearl. Lots of young people that don't want to put up with the bullshit of austin but still want to have fun.

the hill country is honestly your best bet, an hour or two outside of austin if you can handle not being in the city. Lots of cool festivals and hidden gems in every little town.

west texas is desert although el paso is a nice town with mountains and tons of mexicans there, very safe, sort of isolated, local culture unlike rest of texas and mostly mexican.

I like the panhandle but many don't. Amarillo has a local arts scene and dive bars and the people are turbo friendly. Not everyone can handle the plains though; slower pace of life, harsh weather, conservative older generation, some say its isolated but you're 5 hrs from dallas, 3 from ABQ and 4 from colorado..

like i say it depends on what you want. Houston has the hip with the very international. Montrose, the heights, and midtown have great bar scenes, coffee shops, street art, etc, and are pretty affordable. Tons of arts, from the Houston grand opera, symphony, local theaters like the matchbox, theater under the stars, etc. also discovery green festivals, miller outdoor theater, and some great live music venues that get big names. Downtown is coming up as well, the charity bar and subterreanean food hall are nice. River Oaks and the Galleria area really do have high speed big money though. I see exotic supercars there every day, you'll be rubbing elbows with jet set arabs and europeans and trust fund oil babies. All the fashion you can ask for. Lots of hidden bars, restraunts, and shopping areas that make you feel like you are more in New York than TX. The nightclubs are far better than the rest of TX. West U is a cute little area that is the richest city in TX and top ten nationwide.

It's not all roses though, I'm a little older and sick with the superficial drug and hookup and money culture, so i'll be moving away next year. Traffic there is also an actual nightmare, rush hour is 2-7 and its gridlock on everywhere especially surface streets, stopligts every 100 feet that are always red, potholes everywhere. I never thought i'd mind something like traffic as much as i do here but it fucks up my day. Also lots of kushed out bums.
