So uh, how do people generally define modest?

I usually take modest to be not dressing in a overtly sexual way, one in which you don't objectify your body. But then I'm reading it's dressing feminine, traditionally, in an almost matronly and non-ostentatious way.

I'd share fits I like but I think people will say some of it is too eccentric or masculine even though to me it seems modest.

First of all, I do enjoy the outfits which you posted and by all means keep posting the kind of outfits which fit into your own idea of modest fashion. I do think that the term itself is quite vague and people have different opinions what it means to dress modestly. It doesn't have to be all midi skirts and blouses, it's pleasant to have some variation!

I didn't start the original or the second thread, but I wanted to see more of this type of style, so I decided to make these last two threads and continue to use the word "modest" in the title. I have noticed that some people think that the word has a negative connotation, but personally I find it to be a neutral one. (English isn't my native language though, so I just might not see it)

Someone mentioned in the previous thread that this style is quite common amongst japanese office ladies, if I recall correctly. That might be one of the reasons why it's easy to find asian designers and stores which have this type of style. (not that it matters really)

I fully agree with you! I think we should be a bit careful that we don't try to assume anyone's personality or beliefs too easily based on the way that they dress. And also, I'm dressing this way for myself. I loved the style for so long, always loved it when I tried it out. I actually despise jeans and only used to wear them because I stupidly thought people would think of me as a freak for not wearing them. But I was wrong, people won't judge you for that. And I feel great by wearing skirts almost daily. It's really comfy, I look cute and it's easier to pull off any outfit because everything goes well with my skirts.I couldn't be happier.

I think the proper way to do lighter/casual mori girl is to know the right frames and fabrics to use. Babydoll style dresses are hard to find in a longer length but if you can find a cotton layered slip it would transform it a lot. Dresses with short and mid length sleeves are great for the summer and don't require a cardigan on top. Posting some inspo now.
(as far as cgl threads go, mori girl seems to slump and not many people post about casual mori or less costume-y mori)

another great thing about this style is that makeup is very optional. If anything, all I would do is just a bit of a tinted chap-stick in a rose color and maybe occasionally mascara in dark brown. It's low maintenance and really easy going

haha, who /neverwearspants/ here? i used to be such a tomboy but i got redpilled by my boyfriend and now i only wear dresses and skirts. my mom wouldn't let me throw out all my pants but i have three long skirts now and a knee dress and a long dress so please give me places to cop more long skirts especially winter ones. thanks!
