I don't know about Stone Island specifically but that's juts how light jackets usually are, they are also easy to pack to small space which is very convenient.
I use jacket like that for running for those qualities and just layer depending on the weather. Oh and it also dries quickly.

been brainstorming a clothing brand idea for awhile
I work in healthcare, thought it would be cool to use tech fabrics in making scrubs, bought fabric and sewing machine, still setting the fabric aside until I figure out how to make clothes lol
but then I browsed the government liquidation site and it seemed like a cool idea, some military outerwear is really well made but the colors are most utilitarian than most people would like to wear out in public

tech fabric scrubs is an interesting idea though. You should do some more serious market research.

Kickstarter would probably be a better platform than buying fabric and a sewing machine and selling individual pieces.

The concept sounds kinda like Maharishi if you just wanna upcycle, their stuff should give plenty of inspo.

And i'm also interested to see how you rework tech fabrics, presumably most of these (treated fabrics, shells, etc) are a bit more technical to tackle compared to a plain 100% cotton fabric?

Magnoli, from what I heard when I was 17 years old and looking for a good replica. The official Steady jacket is fucking disgusting. Magnoli actually looks as good as the jacket used in the film. Still won't look good on you if you're not handsome, muscular and otherwise subdued in your style. It's also a fucking plastic jacket, so I would try to stay as organic as possible in the rest of my clothes.
