reminder that the markup on fragrances can be as high as 5 to 8 times.
I used to be able to buy fragrances at a fraction of the price when I was employed by one of the houses. for example: a 50 ml bottle of any Tom Ford Private Blend for ~$25.
that was pretty close to the actual production price. I stopped buying fragrances when I stopped working there, as I felt like it wasn't worth it.
it just feels like you're their bitch when you're buying something extremely overpriced. now I just create my own basic shit.

Anyway got sample of Black Afgano. Don’t get all the hype, didn’t smell like weed at all. It wasn’t even a strong scent either , very weak and could hardly smell it. To me it smelled more like a smoke shop/ Jamaican hipster store then anything else.

Anyone else have the problem of too many fragrances ? Is it weird to want to downsize to maybe 3-4 fragrances and rotate. Right now I have a 2k worth collection of fragrances and I feel like I hardly use some and like some better then others and it feels bad that I don’t have a “signature” scent. But at the same time I don’t want to rid myself of my expensive collection like that .

Just got a sample of Oud Wood Intense by Tom Ford but found out that it's very different than the og oud wood. Tried Tuscan leather also ( as well as nasomatto pardon and diptyque vetyverio )n it didn't do it for me.

Should I sample oud wood intense with oud wood or is it not worth it? Also thinking about sampling Tom Ford Vert D'Encens.

I didin't like the intense version at all. There are also two versions of the TF Oud Wood. One is the original and it had a gold label. That is the best OUd fragrance I have ever smelled, it was creamy and people liked it. me not being the biggest oud fan. Then they reformulated it when they introduced into the OUd line and it has a grey label now, which you can find in stores. This one is a lot spicier and probably not as good as the original but still a pretty likable oud fragrance.

If you can, get a sample of the original gold label version and see what you think. But if you are like me, and you weren't blown out by Pardon, then you probably won't be impressed by the original OW either.

you must be underaged or something. That is the most popular, most sold fragrance in the world and it's like 20 years old or something. Don't know where you like, but in most places it's impossible to not haven smelled it before on someone else in the work place.

It was such a hit when it came out that it started the whole acquatic genre of fragrances. Many people here will maybe hate on it just because it's become a victim of it's own success.

It's still a good fresh fragrance, that you can wear in the hot weather. But depending on where you live, you might smell like 10 other guys in the office or in the club. So avoid wearing it if you are going on a date.

Gallagher had one that smelled like peaches roasting on a campfire. I believe he's vaulted that one now, but he may have done bottles left. You could email him and ask, he's very good at accommodating stuff like that.

He also had a limited edition version of Bergamust called Bergamust Noir that was basically Bergamust with a shitton of smoke in it. That one's gone, but I think he has some left that he may sell if you ask.

Yeah, both Amongst Waves and Bergamust have crazy projection and longevity for aquatics.

I hope he does well too. He makes some high quality stuff and he seems like a good dude. Always gives me a couple of big samples and little hand-written notes. I emailed him a while back and he actually referenced my email in the note he wrote in my latest order. Top-notch customer service.

I'm interested in That Guy, actually. I love Pineapple. How similar is it to something like Pibeapple Vintage? I already have PV Intense and some Arabic Aventus clone with a Zebra on the label that's actually pretty good. If it's too similar, I might skip it.

>> No.12833033

>>12832939
Oh, also, I should warn you: Bergamust Noir is really, REALLY smokey. Like, it smells like someone sucked a bunch of smoke out of a bonfire and blew it into, on, and around a bottle of Bergamust. He actually lists smoke as a top, heart, and base note. If you don't really like smoke, you may not like BN.

>> No.12833057

>>12833020
I don't have Pineapple Vintage or Zebra (Leopard is on the way though).

I can see why people might say it's in the same vein as Aventus, but it's definitely more pineapple-ish, and the "smokey" part is actually more pine-ish in That Guy. So more of a juicy, pineapple/forest feel I guess. I have Aventus, but I find myself reaching for That Guy more often. I really like it.

If you want to check it out, you can get a cheap decant of it here:

I have no idea about fragrance, so help me please. I want to smell like cologne after I shave, but that smell doesn't last for more than 20 minutes and all the girls I've been with absolutely loved when I put on cologne before we went to bed. It was like crack to them, they just couldn't resist to not cuddle up to me everytime I laid down.

Is there a fragrance or cologne or w/e, that smells really good for longer period of time? Would drop up to 50$ on something that is crack to women and can last 2-3 hours for an entire date.

>> No.12833633

>>12833624
>would drop up to 50.00
Whoa there, big spender!

>something that can last 2-3 hours
I mean, something that lasts like 4-5 hours is considered to have relatively poor longevity. If you're willing to spend a reasonable amount on fragrance and not a sub-50.00 mall-tier frag, there's plenty of stuff out there that'll last all day.

You should realistically be looking to spend more in the 70-80.00 range or so for a decent designer frag, maybe a bit more. Keep in mind, though, a bottle should last you like a year, so it's not actually all that expensive overall.

Most designer frags tend to be in the 70-100.00 range. The stuff that's cheaper than that is mostly cheap overly synthetic shit with poor longevity or older fragrances that smell dated now.

>>12833645
Well, you shouldn't be dousing yourself in the stuff. Usually 3-4 sprays'll do it. Some frags maybe a little more, some a little less. If you're only using it a couple times a week, it should for sure last you at least a year, if not more.

Now, in terms of designer frags girls love: you have Sauvage, of course, but it's very popular so tons of guys wear it. Versace Eros is quite nice, very sensual, great date fragrance. Spicebomb is a good date choice for cooler weather. You could also go with Ultra Male or Paco Rabanne Invictus.

Any of the above are great date fragrances and generally loved by women. They're not great for a work environment, too loud, too playful, and too sensual, but if you're looking for great date scents that aren't too expensive, those are your best bets, I'd say.

Black currant is much more commonly a niche note. Reason being, it's very easy for it to wind up smelling like cat piss if it isn't used well. As a result, it isn't a note you really find in crowd-pleasing designer frags too often.

So no, you're not likely to find something with currant in it that's decent at anywhere near that low a price.
