As for the bulky buckles, I've looked into many options including pic related (though I don't know where to buy them). Mostly I'm trying to determine what kind of form people prefer (masculine vs. feminine, busy, vs. clean) all kinds of feedback are welcome.

>> No.12782794

>>12782781
the neckline is a bit wavy, try to stay on your seam allowance as best as possible
ironing the seam down towards the hem would help it too
the lettuce on the sleeves is minimal, and a bit more noticeable on the orange hem than the blue
try using fusing on the hem to add a little structure--should prevent any lettuce

your shoulder seam and armhole cap have a bit of a bulge
i've notice these on my tees and hoodies i've sewn and can be solved by reducing your stitch width and/or ironing your seams towards center front

the curve of your hems give an awkward appearance
maybe add some length to the center front and center back

i personally square out my hems

I was going to attend a fashion illustration class but there was only one locally and had started before I had the funds.

Other than that there's classes for: basic sewing, basic pattern cutting, dressmaking & alterations. general dressmaking and a bunch of other shit. They're around £100ish. But I have no idea about the reputation of these classes and whether they're good or not.

Also ty for the links, sadly I already lurked the boro mottainai thread when it was first up and have the visvim link saved from a while back. But ty for the grailed link, I'l give By Walid a check in further depth

For illustrations: figure out what you want to learn how to draw and then draw it a lot. Don't just copy other illustrations, try to draw from life or at least photo references. Don't focus on developing an "art style" right away, it will develop naturally as you get better.

Youtube is a goldmine for sewing tutorials. Maybe take one session of a class just to learn how to use a sewing machine and how to make something from a commercial pattern, but you really don't need more than that.

With YouTube there's no contact and feedback between the 'teacher' and the 'student'. Sewing classes are not only a source of learning, but also a way to socialize and create a routine in your week, a place where you can relax. On the other hand, the quality depends on the people organizing and attending these classes. It can be awkward sitting amidst grandmothers. 100 quid a month can be expensive. i got a Singer 1025 sewing machine from my mom a few years ago and started using it with no sewing background at all to alter my clothes real simply. I've been doing that for a 2 years now but more recently I've gotten into complete garment construction and even accessory construction like bags made of vinyl and denim or canvas. My machine broke down a few times over the years and getting it repaired is $75 so I decieded it'd be a better investment to buy a new better one. I don't know much but I've narrowed my search to

>Singer 4411
>Singer 4423
>Singer 44S Classic

I don't really wanna spend more than $200 and I'd like to be able to return the machine easily if it can't handle the kind of work I want to put it through so those are all available at walmart. any advice?

Hand baste (lightly sew them on to keep them in place) your patches with a colorful thread and go over them with the desired color with a sewing machine if you have access to one. They will never come off if you do it this way.

If you plan on using a sewing machine and you want to add some studs do that after all the patches are on, it will me much easier.

Don't ever put your vest in the washing machine, hand wash it or spray it with a mixture of vodka and water to kill the concert smell. But most of all, have patience while you make it and don't rush it.

Anyone here know how to remove leftover adhesive from a 100% polyester track jacket? Removed a patch and I couldn't fully remove it. Tried alcohol, and it helped a bit but couldn't quite remove everything.

Went to the dry cleaners and had it both dry cleaned and hand-washed, to no luck. The dry cleaners said gas (kerosene?) might be able to remove it. Anyone know alternatives? Is gas safe to use?

I've done lot of prints in the past so for this I wanted to do one that looks bit imperfect for 'diy aesthetic' could have done better job in all honesty, probably should have just made the "errores" in the stencil itself and it would have looked better but oh well

Yeah on hindsight just regular and sharp flower with no imperfections would have looked better

It's not that in-depth but it's a nice quick little overview of what characteristics you can expect knits to have from their fibre content so I thought it might be of interest to some people here.

an anorak or smock you could figure out without much an issue, and is doable in one shot if you're clever. something like a tank top you would make without even using a pattern, a t-shirt would probably be a little harder, and a BDU shirt or jacket would require you make all of the above beforehand just to fimiliarze yourself with a machine. what I would do is start by making a bunch of hats cause they don't eat up too much fabric, are good practice and quickly show results so you don't get frustrated and give up.

thread to match is the only criticism i have
what do your seams look like? we were developing a paneled underarm as a nod to lang but did not like how the seams sat, and we didn't like the bulk of adding a self lining to cover the seams within the bottom quarter of the sleeve

if the fabric knit or woven? if knit- a t shirt is a good place to start and you can probably buy a pattern from a local Joann's type store, from the internet, or follow a tutorial to make one by tracing a shirt you own
if woven, a button down is a pretty tough first project to tackle

made a belt close to that of the 1k tutorial
used 1.5" webbing and hardware and found that it's a bit too bulky to go through my personal belt loops, and even tougher for the pants from our line

i ordered 2 yards of the webbing and felt as if it was excessive, but after constructing it and having to burn the cut end (which altered the shape enough to make it difficult for the hardware), i think it best to manipulate the folded and sewn edge length rather than cut

i tried the strapped d ring at the male buckle and didn't like the way in which tightening the belt worked out
moved the strapped d ring to the end of the belt and found it too bulky, and just left the ring without the extra strap at the end

the lack of usefulness of the d rings definitely is not making it on a 2nd sample
