Funny thing is, Saab designed jointly a car (Saab 9000) with Italian company Lancia in the 1980s and Giorgetto Giugiaro was again involved. I think it's a nice looking car in a way that e.g. some mid-range American cars (Chryslers etc) are. However that "American-ness" is quite a big turn-off for me personally, I don't care much for larger American cars as much as for smaller European and Japanese cars.

if you want reliability and easy repairs do not buy a car that is more than 20 years old. obviously there are exceptions but just keep in mind buying an old sports car is a huge money pit but you learn how to work on cars. get something older and cooler if you have another car or means of transportation.

do you want a practical car or something like a sports coupe? LS400 is a good suggestion, they are reliable and are older, most are very cheap. finding one that hasn't been hooned may be difficult. most are automatic too unfortunately

FRS/BRZ, Miatas, and BMWs are great cars if you can find some that are in nice condition, might be a little high at your price point

Nice. I like the 2nd gen where they switched to the rectangular headlights. It's a shame no one makes a decent looking van now a days. You either have to get something well over 20 years old or drive some modern day monstrosity. As someone who lives in New York and actually relies on the MTA on a daily basis, not it fucking isn't. Maybe it's different wherever you live but the MTA is so fucking awful. Both the trains and buses are incredibly outdated, poorly maintained, and filthy. Beyond that the trains are never running right because there's always something fucked up or getting serviced and the buses come half as often as they're scheduled to.

I sincerely wish owning a car was more plausible here (no parking and high insurance are stopping me) just so I could get away from the shitfest that is our public transportation system.
