I had long hair for a few years, the way i dealt with the awkward phase was to wear a lot of beanies and then eventually got it trimmed so it looked normal while continuing to grow it out.

I only say don't undercut since once you do that cut you have to keep doing that style and buzzing sides or it looks like shit . And once you want out you have to take major length off the top.

I'm the guy from >>12541845. My top hair is basically at man-bun length with the sides and back left to grow longer as well. I just towel dry it, detangle it with my fingers, and then use a wide teeth comb to slick it back. Been testing out various a light-medium hold pomades in styling, generally trying to use the least amount of product as possible. Nothing too sticky.

It's basically like a middle part with the longer hairs kept in place behind my ears. The rest is all thanks to the slight waviness.
